Ok a question for you guys, first off I have a 1.4 Brava S and have been reading the forum for a while now but this is my first post.

Ok I like my Brava but I've always wanted something sporty, so heres my dilemma I have come across a Fiat Barchetta which I want and I can afford it but the fact is I want to move out of my parent house as well! Now I cant decide whether to get the car or get a house, I can only afford one!!

so I'm throwing it open to opinions!

cheers

Craig

how much is the barchetta?
i believe its only left hand drive?
there could be other options allowing you to have both? Reason is that the barchetta may be a bitch to maintain, insure because of rarity and left hand drive....

Other options

The Barchetta is 1.8 LHD only and £8999 but I have driven it and the LHD doesn't seem to be a problem, the only other option is to rent a house and then I could still have the car, but then I'd be paying someone else rather than paying my own mortgage off.

Anyone else?

Options

Get The House

If you don't then you're buying a car that will decrease in value while giving money to someone in rent bit of a Lose - Lose situation.

Get the mortgage then you're on your way to owning something that will increase in value if you look at how long you're gonna own it...

Would rather have a 900cc cinq and a mortgage than a Barchetta... although it is a nice car...

Definately the house matey, Otherwise you're renting which is dead money, and the Barchetta will decrease in value while stinging you for insurance cos of the left hand drive... :)

Re: Other options

Hi Craig

Whereabouts do you live as there's a barchetta / italian sports car specialist in this area (taken from their website):

DTR EUROPEAN SPORTS CARS
29 SHEEN LANE, MORTLAKE, SW14 8HY
Telephone 0208 878 6078

LOCATION

DTR are located just south of the river Thames at Mortlake, between Putney and Richmond in south west London. We are easily accessible from either M4 or M3.

Take a look at www.dtrsports.com for more info.

regards.

Get both!

Buy the house! I've been renting for a while and house prices have gone up so much in the last year I can't afford the house I want - but a year ago I could of.
Besides, you could always get a slightly higher mortgage so you can get both!
I just bought a place that needed loads of work doing to it, the only way I could do the work and buy the house was to get more than 100% mortgage, maybe you could consider that. I know at least one mortgage comapany that does up to 120%.

I suppose

Thanks Barrakka,

still an irritating situation, I am only 20 so I have plenty of time!

lol - My brother has a cinquecento!!!

anyway thanks for the opinion, just a hard decision to make!!

:)

both

Like I said I really dont want to rent but it might be the only possibility if I definitely want the car!

I live in Derbyshire, so the dealership mentioned is a bit far :p

thanks guys for your opinions!!

decision

Thanks for your advice guys, I have decided to go for a Barchetta and wait till next year for the move!

Gotta live a little first and the Barc is a great car!

Got a question about my Brava S 1.4 though - the fuel injection light came on the other day while I was driving to work but only stayed on for a few minutes, does this mean theirs a problem or a little glitch?

Anyway getting all the Brava stuff together to swap in on tge Barchetta (1.8 R Reg with 37000 on the clock in Regal blue - which happens to be same colour as my Brava!)

Houses can wait - plus I'll have a year to save up - a good compromise methinks!

:)

House prices

House prices are SOOOOOOO high at the moment. Perhaps in a years time they will have come down. Enjoy your car.
