A friend reckons his mileage display went off for a couple of weeks, then just before he took it into the dealers it came back on, showing the same mileage, ie he'd done a couple of hundered miles without it showing. Now it seems to me that there must be some sensor that counts the miles (or gearbox revs or something) and it would be very handy to know where this sensor was. So....does anybody know? Where is it? Is it likely to become detached?
He's got a 1.6 Stilo.

I agree, it would be very handy to know where it is.

/me waits for Haynes manual to be released ;)

I think in your friends case, it was more of an electric fault, or ICU fault. If any sensor had become detached, I don't think it would have started recording the mileage again. Bonus in any case. :)
