Technical digi dash problem

my digi dash has been playing up now for quite a while now,it goes off then it could be mins or days before it comes back on again,it is only the actual digital readout that goes off,all other lights ,batt,oil etc still work,i got hold of another dash but the same lights work on this which makes me think there is a fault somewhere other than the dash,does anybody know if the dash is ecu controlled ,

The wires that go into the dash are all in sockets, check that all of the pins are "tight" Bend them together with a needle or pin or other suitable small device.

If the speedo read Zero it would be likely that there might be a problem with the connection on the Gearbox but because it switches off, I'm guessing its a loose connection on the back of the dash.
