I'm finding it very difficult finding a stilo "to spec"!! These cars seem rarer than the Mazdas I am used to driving! All I want is a 3 door, with sky roof, working aircon/climate control and decent mileage at a decent price, but I cant find anything that matches!!

:(

am I going to struggle to find an example with this spec?

Stilo's didn't sell well from new, and unlike the 5 door models that got loaded onto rental fleets, the 3 doors were nearly all private buys, so these are even rarer.

However, there is an ok supply of reasonably low (ie under 90,000 miles) examples with one or two owners kicking around - the petrols in particular having low mileage.

This one needs a few hundred knocking off the asking price, but does look very tidy - only 2 owners, low mileage, leather & sky window. Only niggle is it's a 1.6. Not sure they'd except an offer of £1900, which is about what i think it's worth (unless the diesels i've seen are under priced) but you could try.

oops, sorry chaps I should have put a bit more detail.

I am looking for a 1.9 jtd. I need the economy you see. As for mileage, well, I have seen affordable examples in the past with less than 50k, but i have always driven cars wiht higher mileage, so I'd say I want UP TO 70k (which should mean cambelt is taken care of).

I think my expectations are high, but not unreasonable. Its just finding something that actually meets those criteria. Seems working air con is rare, but I simply MUST have working air con. The skyroof is a bonus, I really love the idea and it looks great but I would sacrifice that if the rest of the car was spot on.

its hard...!

don't be put off by higher mileage jtd's. Mine now has 95k on it and drives like it did when it had 78k miles on. i had an even tighter criteria when i bought mine and found it within 2 weeks of looking. I wanted a jet blue jtd with skyroof. You just got to be patient and willing to travel a bit

Under 70k miles on a JTD? No wonder your struggling. Most diesels do that in a few years. Presumably your looking at 2005 and older your chances of finding one to that spec a nion impossible.

I agree with all your comments abotu mileage, im just basing my searches on what I have seen in the past (when i started looking a couple of months ago), seems to me there are plenty with low mileage, just not with skyroof etc...

I have a diesel Ford Maverick, thats got 129k on it, so high mileage doesnt bother me so much, I just dont want a car with such high mileage that the next cambelt is due, gearbox is worn, clutch is due etc etc...as for 350K+, i doubt it, the rest of the car will fall apart before the engine reaches that mileage, especially the gearbox.

no, I think I am fairly realistic with price/mileage, but the spec combined is the killer. I know there is a blue one for sale, thats the correct spec, but it has three faults. Air con doesnt work, dash resets itself and skyroof doesnt work, mileage is high but not a problem to me. Its a shame, because that car would be ideal, but I dont know enough about these cars to know how much a dash repair is, air con repair or how difficult it is to fix the electronic controls of the skyroof! Im more than capable of fixing issues, but not being in the know puts me off

its frustrating, because ive really gone and fallen for the Stilo!!!

have to say the skyroof was one of the main reasons why i have the stilo. It is a great thing to have bar the leak in heavy rain:) its lovely driving with the windows and roof open at the moment.

aircon not working could just need regassing. As stilo's are 7-8 yrs old i bet most stillrun with the original gas in.
As for gearbox issues it seems rare on the jtd for the gearbox to go wrong.

the blue stilo in the link I have been watching for a while, hes not shifting it, but its a bit out of my price range at the moment. I really do want the SkyRoof now, the stint of good weather left me thinking that if i had it, itd just be great, if i didnt, id be wishing i had it! Its not an abolsute MUST, but certainly high on the list. I agree with RattyStilo, if you have something you want in a car, you should get it otherwise youre gonna regret it! I dont mind it going wrong so much, seems theres a manual way to open and close(so that you can at least fix any sensor/electrical fault)

end of the day, the cars got more electronics to go wrong than any car i have had, so im not worried.

It's a diesel capable of 350k+, why the need for it to be such low mileage

Diesel engine may be capable of 350k+, but most of the rest of the car, i.e. suspension, rear axle, steering, wheel bearings, brakes, cables, electronics, electrics, lighting, airbags, heating/ventilation system, dashboard, controls, upholstery, mobile bodywork is the same as, and wears and develops faults, the same as the petrol versions.

I will be listing my 5 door JTD soon (66k miles, owned by me for over 5 years) with skyroof, parking sensors, cruise control, connect nav, auto lights/wipers. Although aircon isn't working and rear axle bushes need replacing but I've spent a fair bit on it recently on brakes, suspension etc. as I had planned on keeping it until my travel requirements recently dropped.

Listing at 1700 expecting 1500.

actually mate, this one is onei was tryign to find today to show mi mate at work, but i couldnt find it! its certainly a better 5 door, I hate the look of it, its like a Skoda fabia, but still, spec is great and aside form a few scrapes its very good for the price...!
