my latest car tends to run on when switched off. it's a carburettored car. i've poured redex into each cylinder through sparkplugs but had little difference, though i only had a small bottle, so maybe didn't pour enough into each cylinder?

i've read that this often happens on higher compression engines, and i have reason to believe that this is one, but haven't tried a compression test as i don't have one. but is this actually true? any help would be appreciated. (y)

sounds like a de coke job to me... head off, scrape out, polish and re grind your valves while your at it

It will of course result in a much happier engine, smoother running and all the feel good factors....

before you embark on the job, check your running temperatures, thermostat, coolant levels....no leaks etc... overheating can also lead to dieseling when switching off.

But with a good de coke your engine will love you!

all the best!
