The red Injector light comes on intermittently whilst driving.

When driving 'normally' - i.e. light to medium throttle opening with minimal load on the engine - no light.

But put the foot down to accelerate say up a hill, or to overtake, and the injector comes on. The driving conditions - dry & cold / gear: 2nd & above / speed 30 & above (all so far).

The car feels like its being held back in when the injector light comes on, so could it be fuel starvation? Anything else cause the injector light to come on?

I'm sort of wondering if the start problems have something to do with this (see previous post - entitled Diesel Starting)?

The car is a Marea Weekend TD100 ELX.

The injector light normally indicates a general problem with the fuel system. It could be fuel pressure or injectors. If it's not too bad try a little injector cleaner before you go for a diagnostic.

The local Fiat garage have admitted to fitting the wrong filter - something to do with a parts no. mix up.

They've fitted the correct filter, and now the engine seems to have more power. The down side the Injector light still comes on, but only when you floor it from low speed in a high gear. It sort of come on as the boost builds, and then stays on until you take you foot off the accelerator.

If you give it gas, but let the revs rise quickly (i.e. accelerate through gears) the light doesn't come on (or hasn't yet).

When they put it on their diagnostic machine, it came up with a Glow Plug error. :-/

An update to the problem:

The car has been running fine on the home / work cycle (approx. 2.5 miles 1 way).

Today, took the car from cold start on a 15 mile run - no probs - up hill, down dale, full throttle / light throttle car performed as expected.

Parked car for 45 minutes.

On the return journey, injector light started to come on approx. 5 miles into journey. Light came on 3/4 to full throttle, any gear, any speed on or off boost. Didn't come on if I slowly built the revs using a light throttle setting. Conditions 6 degrees C - slightly damp. When the light came on it didn't seem to lose power - although I did back off to clear the light.

As its this intermittent I don't think its mechanical (I hope) - a sensor thats breaking down under load / heat? But which one?

Any ideas? Anyone

Final update:

This has been traced to a faulty throttle position wiring contact. The dealer believes the mechanic may have knocked the wiring when changing the filter.

They beleive the wiring plug was expanding under heat, so that when the engine was put under load, the contact was breaking, therefore the ECU was detecting a fault.

They have checked and cleaned all the throttle actuator / position sensor wiring, plus the throttle peddle sensor / plus adjusted the throttle actuator all free of charge. The car now drives really well, and seems to have the poewer I remember on the test drive.
