Out of curiosity, how often do you (as a owner) top the oil up in your diesel (whether it be TD75, TD100, or JTD)?

I check mine every month or so and it does seem to need a little top up. There's no oil on the drive so its not leaking unlike my previous 1.8.

IIRC my old diesel metro needed a fair bit of topping up over time so I'm wondering if its just a diesel thing?

My mileage is relatively high at 18000 miles a year.

I never fill up. Everytime I check its above the middle part of the stick I guess where it should be

I never fill up, always at max each time i check.

A guy at work as an S Reg, SDI Golf (Mk4).. 68BHP I think they are - That uses about 1½ litres every 10k.

how "much" topping up are you doing? Just wondering as I have a TD100 that uses about a 1/3 to a 1/2 on the marking on the dipstick between 6k oil changes I do on it. So as others have mentioned its about a litre of oil every 10-12k. All depends how you drive it and where. If I am doing town driving or giving it some stick then it drinks that little but more

Mine also never needs topping up i do around 10,000 a year .

its the turbo on the td that eats the oil not the engine.

unless its needing oil every week you dont need to worry. its normal

I wouldn't say its guzzling it, just slightly using some.

Sometimes when I boot it (as much as you can in a TD :) ) I see a fine cloud come out the back. Few and far between mind you.

Essentially it had a full service 6k miles ago and no reported issues then so I'm not worried, just wondered if others had similar experiences.

hi,

I change my oil evey 6000 on my jtd and to be honest i very rarely need to top it up. maybe i should check it more often lol. i do lots of miles too about 18000 a year hence the jtd !

Kind regards,

its more than likely a slightly weepy internal oil seal on the turbo. if it were gone it would smoke loads on idle and drink oil. dont worry they are called oil burners for a reason :)
