Hopefully I'll get better responses here than I did on the USA forum.....
hi All
I just bought a salvaged 2016 500X Trekking Plus. I'm aware of some of the foibles that come with that and was prepared to tackle the minor issues on my own as I like to tinker and wrench. On my drive home from purchasing the car I noticed the front radar wasn't working (for the adaptive cruise control) and the rear right BSM monitor was out. The left BSM (brake sensor module) worked fine. The car had previously sustained front and rear damage and both modules seemed to be in the exact points of impact. I figured I'd have to source and fit new sensors - oh well.
When I got home I plugged my generic OBD scanner in and this is when things started to go awry. Seems the protocol on my cheap scanner removed the override for these unfunctional systems and I now get a warning and CEL light every time I drive it.
OK I figure I have to go buy a Fiat specific OBD2 scanner if I want to change the faulty parts and reset the system myself.
Does anyone have a good (and frugal) recommendation for an OBD2 scanner for this model year with 2.4 Multiair motor which will allow me to reset and override (if necessary) these sensors?
UPDATE: I decided to bite the bullet and purchase an OBDlink MX+ system. I'll have to get a pc based tablet too as I want to get the full AlfaOBD software and use it for a potential 500e project in the future.
I ordered the rear BSM sensor and thats arriving tomorrow. (see other post)
The CEL code I have appears to be a misfire in cyl #1 (P0301) which is permanent. I have new plugs and coils on the way too. If anyone has had experience with this error, I'd be interested to hear about it.....
UPDATE 2: I swapped #1 and #2 coils while I wait for the new ones to arrive. Yesterday I got a REAL bad misfire. Seemed like only 2 cyls were running and yup, sure enough, 1 and 2 recorded misfire error codes so I think I'm on the right trail with that issue.
Regarding permanent error codes - do these delete themselves after a while or will I need to use the Alfa OBD software to get rid of them?
Cheers
