Good afternoon all,

I am writing to seek some advice about my Fiat X 1/9.

While driving home yesterday at about 120 km/h, I heard a bang from somewhere in the engine bay and immediately lost engine power. All the electrics were fine and the car was still going, but it straight away felt like I was running on one or two cylinders. There was also a loud rattling sound under acceleration.

I managed to crawl home, barely getting above 60 km/h, but the temperature gauge was red-lining and I reckon I almost overheated her before getting back home. Once home I checked the spark plugs: two were black and oily and two were like a burnt-orange colour with no oil on them at all. A quick check underneath the engine bay didn’t reveal any major leaks (coolant or oil).

So I was wondering if you could suggest what steps I should take to diagnose the problem. I've got another Fiat X 1/9 that I could take parts from and am happy to do the work myself, but I'm not really sure where to begin.

Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated

JP
