Stuart...might have to 'force regeneration' the PAF at the garage, unfortunally stricter emission laws means the need for PAF'S so they will become more common:rolleyes:

Poggy...what alfa you got?

It's a 156 2.0JTS Selespeed :)

The last time I had this, I was told I had to fork out some horrendous sum for them to fill the tank with special fluid - I will refuse this option, and feel it should be done under warranty if that is the case.

I will mention the PAF thingymawotsit to them ;)

Not too fussed about the AA hire car - if I can limp it a few miles to the dealership in the morning, I will. Otherwise I have to sit in the car for 2 hours for the AA to come out; half-term next week helps, so the car is not imperative.

6 or 4 wire lambda (bank 1 & 2 pre-cat) sensors?

I think it is 4 wire, it was reset this afternoon by the garage who installed the LPG in the Ulysse and hasn't come on again since.

I assume that if it was a continuous fault it would light up again when you start the car. The guy at the garage said the O2 sensor voltage was too low and it was stuck in a closed loop (or something). If it was still stuck would the light come back on again.

Well, getting somewhere, I think :chin:

The garage put it on Examiner soon after they had it, but not soon enough, and by that time the light had distinguised itself plus nothing in the fault code memory

So it was decided that one of the managers would take it home on Wedndesday, on an 80 mile round trip; I presume they hooked up Examiner to it, or took some mobile diag equipment.

Lo and behold, 15 miles up the M1 and the yellow 'depollution' light came on for him :slayer: I was so chuffed when they told me this :D

They managed to glean 2 fault codes from this, none of which the service manager nor the DET understood - so TESEO was faxed, and it just so happened their guy was in the vicinity today, so he came down to inspect the vehicle personally; from the voicemail I got on my mobile, I gather they have found something wrong with it [something to do with fuel filler nozzle], part is on order, and being fitted tomorrow morning - just in time for us to go away [I did ask to borrow the Croma if not ;)].

Will find out more tomorrow, but it sounds like the special fluid is not being squirted in correctly - is this prompted by the filling up process?

Good new Stu, I think the filler is meant to be airtight for everything to work properly. Maybe it isn't so it causes a problem.

Got the Alfa back today from the garage, the light did come back on again a day later so I booked it in. They replaced 2 of the O2 sensors on the exhaust, fortunately under the 3rd year warranty or it would have cost £242.00. So far it hasn't come back, but I will need to do a few cold starts to be sure. They even polished the car and cleaned the inside, which was nice.

While I was there I had a test drive in the 159 1.9JTD, which was impressive and had good build quality. I think the 2.4JTD would be the one to go for though (200BHP as standard & 41mpg). The major drawback is that the auto won't arrive until November and it won't be Selespeed as they say the gearboxes are too problematic.

Well, so much for going on holiday at noon!

The car is still in the darn dealership  - although I just phoned them, and car is now ready apparently, just not been test-driven :s - so I am flying down there now to pick it up, fill it up, pack it up, then go on holiday for 4 days. I am furious - they have had it since last Saturday, they knew we were going away, and yet they only did tests on it Wednesday night......

What's the use of an on-board warning log if it doesn't log the warnings? Maybe that needs a fix too? After the holidays, of course.

Aargh.........

400 miles after being 'fixed', driving home today on the M1 and guess what - the damn light comes back on

I am now waiting for Motorvogue to phone me back; at this rate, if they don't come up with a minimum 6 seater courtesy car whilst this is being fixed once and for all, I will get legal advice and go down the road of trying to reject the car, and/or get recompensed - this issue started a few months after we purchased it.....

Fiat ignored my solicitors letters over the return of £400 that they charged me for a repair which was reported 3 weeks from new and took them 2 years and numerous visits to sort out, which they eventually admitted was a warranty repair and I have that in writing, so I have gone down the road of the small claims court online for enforcement of the debt.
Every time I phone them the cheque is apparently in the post, just about to be posted, has been lost by Royal Mail or the person dealing with it is off work.
The bill is now £764 with court and solicitors costs and Fiat UK should be recieving the papers from the court this week after which they have 14 days to respond or the bailiffs go in.
Although I still like my car, it is this sort of treatment that will ensure that I never buy another Fiat.
Yes I know that other manufacturers may be as bad, but up to now I have only been bitten by Fiat.

I hope you get your fault sorted quicker than mine was.

Good luck

Took mine in again for this problem and this time they told me that the additive level was too low, somewhat different to the last time when they told me they would have to flush the FAP.

Anyway couldn't argue that this was warranty, 40K on the car so it's possible that it did need topped up, so I told them to carry on. Got to the garage to be told that on top of the £31 for the fluid and 1 hour of labour to top it up (plus VAT of course) they also wanted to charge me 1 hour labour for diagnosing the "fault"! When I think that anyone on this board could have told them straight away where to look I was miffed to say the least that a "trained" tech needed an hour to find a low fluid level.

Anyway got the bill down thinking it would be worth it to finally have the damn thing fixed.

1 week later and hey presto my old friend the orange light came back!

Since it has just appeared I'm grasping at straws in the hope that it may be the FAP burning off now that it has been topped up but I really don't hold out much hope.

No joy, the yellow light disappeared gain after a few days, probably 100 miles, and then re-appeared after a further 100 miles. Whatever they've done it hasn't cured the problem.

Stu, did you ever get your's fixed?

Well, it hasn't come on for a long time, maybe once since it went in for the 'last' fix - have done a few long trips as well more recently, and it seemed fine....

It is like a lottery though :(

I wish - then I would buy my dealership outright, then burn it to the ground :D

Well, the so-called cure didn't work, and yes, travelling down to London on Saturday, cruising on the M1, and lo and behold, the light came back on - and has remained on ever since......

Looks like a phonecall to the dealership tomorrow, which will cause more issues because Jules needs the car for work, and they can't provide a courtesy car big enough for her needs.

Has the area Fiat field engineer been out to see the car yet?
Yep, he was the guy who came up with the last solution - filling up the FAP fluid and replace something in the fuel cap area.

I was then promised the light will never ever come on again!!!!

Over 2 and a half years now, and the problem is still there :(

Well I have decided to join the special club of Engine Anti-Pollution problems.

I have not had many problems with my car but now I have this one.
On a trip to Poland and following a tank up (170 miles after tanking up) in Poland of Shell Diesel Extra (I didin't bank on the extra meaning problems) I got the dreaded light and Engine Anti-Pollution System Faulty message with loss of power, strangely enough this tank of fuel yielded 38.89 mpg. My low fuel warning light only came on at 579 miles. Just for information I have included the history of the light going on and off. It may help someone who knows?

14198 started trip mainly fast motorway driving
15079 Engine Anti-Pollution System faulty came on while on country lanes 881 miles done. speed limited to 60 MPH
15119 Power was back next day and the fault was cleared using Fiat Examiner. No problems detected. Thankfully it only cost me £17.72 at an independent garage. Peugeot would not touch it as it was under guarantee and I could not get to a Fiat garage.
15587 Fault again just after having filled up. 468 miles done mixed driving speed limited to 60 MPH power came back within 5 minutes
15649 Light goes out while idling in traffic and having opened fuel filler cap. 62 miles done
15696 Fault again 47 miles done fast motorway speeds speed limited to 60 MPH power came back after 5 minutes
15833 light goes out after an overnight stop 144 miles done.
15938 Fault again 105 miles done fast motorway speeds. Power came back after 5 minutes but following a sharp brake the power went again maximum 70 MPH and when on hills 50 MPH. Took about an hour or so for full power to return
16320 light goes out while idling in traffic again 382 miles done
16380 Fault again while pushing uphill 60 miles done fast motorway speeds
16408 arrived home.
16414 light went out again a day later 34 miles done and after tanking up.

Light is still out.

I am going to then garage tomorrow in the hope that they may be better then some of the ones I have seen in this thread. I have printed all this out but may only hand it over depending on what they say.

It's a shame as the car was performing it's best so far and in between the lights coming on it was alright.

I will let you know my progress.

Lou

I obviously have misinterpreted the conditions of the 3rd year warranty as they wanted to charge me £89.00 to diagnose the problem and any parts needed would have to be okayed by Fiat. This was after having been told it was all covered under warranty. As the warning light is currently off this would probably be money thrown down the drain.

I contacted the garage where I bought it which is a bit of a trek to Corby but they said they would probably excersise some good will and look at it. I will probably do this and get it serviced there at the same time. As the light is currently off this is probably not urgent now. There was an independent Fiat/Citroen Garage round the corner who said that they had would look at it free of charge but I think I will wait until the warranty has expired before I take it elsewhere. i may go there for future servicing as they said a full service would be £160.00 and that they would do more then a Fiat dealership would. Though I suppose they would say that.

Does anybody know how the 3rd year warranty would work as regards Flapping wheel arch covering, noisy electric door, water penetration under drivers door?
