General "Depollution" Engine warning message

Nope, I have not had any 'depollution' errors since my last service - they said I shouldn't get one again!

They probably just removed the fuse or bulb behind the dash ;)

Just catching up on this thread....

Stu, did you ever get the flaking door runner paint sorted? Noticed that mine made a noise and assumed it was normal but after reading other threads, decided to inspect and yes the paint is peeling. One side is worse than the other.

Hi,

I'd be grateful for any details that you may have. I've been digging around to establish whether there are any outstanding recalls on my Ulysse (04, 2.0 JTD). Obviously, Fiat customer services state that there are none!

Sorry for asking a silly question but what is FAP?

Thanks

 So I gotta dig it out all again! Give us few days ;)

Only recent recalls on Ulysse are the undertray clips & air-con hose ones.

I asked the garage if they would change the bottom runner on mine as it was flaking and they said a new one would go exactly the same way. They sliced off the flaked material and put some silicon grease on it. Its been ok since.

Guess what - yep, came back on last week, having done about 15 miles on the M1 (n)

Anyway, took the Stilo into dealership today  , and asked their manager about this recurring problem on the Ulysse.

Apparently, there is a new bulletin that has recently been issued. In the past, the dealerships were told to put 1 litre of liquid into the resevoir, to help the emissions meet standards....

...the new bulletin states the resevoir must now be filled to the top i.e. about 5 litres worth.

Sounds great BUT I was told it is £35 PER LITRE (+VAT and labour charges to actually get to the darn thing) and treated as a consumable, therefore not part of a warranty claim  so looking at over £200 to fix it

That stinks, so I intend to contact Fiat UK, for what it is worth. Hopefully a tech can confirm the above?

Stu there is also a body computer update for depolution messages, its the very latest body computer software.

How recent is that? I had the Ulysse in for a service a few months back, but when I spoke to them today, this was the latest advice...

I think I will approach them with the b/c update as well - cheers (y)

I know nothing about the FAP, but surely it makes no difference if you have 1 or 5 litres in, as long as there is enough to inject into the system. It doesn't re-circulate the liquid does it ?.

The only reason I can think is that it has a level gauge which isn't accurate so it thinks it's run out.

We had a software update on our car and I haven't seen the light again since, but it is a petrol and now that it runs on LPG it is even cleaner so I suppose more unlikely to come on.

Not seen any bulletins regarding additive amounts, the additive should last around 40.000 to 60,000 miles depending on how man cat regenerations have to be done, and also what sort of driving the vehicle does.

Yes, it is all very confusing - but the manager was convinced this was the latest advice

He is hopefully phoning me back tomorrow with warranty prices, so I will ask. Cheers Numan :)

Right here goes......

there was a service bulletin (dated 01/03?) about irregular minimum level, which as far as i'm led to believe simply (simply:rolleyes: ) required a later additive to be used.Although I dont have said bulletin to hand i'm sure (therefore probably wrong) you changed from DPX additive to Eolys additive (5litre tank which is mixed with main diesel tank fuel) which is made from cerium oxide solvent (thinners) hydrocarbon based so it lowers the particule combustion by 100oC.Therefore the particles burn off in the FAP at 550oC but this is now lowered to 450oC.
95% of the particulates are removed so when you 'wellie' the car you dont get the characteristic cloud of black smoke, applies to the 2.2 diesel engine).
The FAP is controlled by a seperate 'node' (non proxy-aligned) located behind drivers side dashboard....where else would it be:rolleyes: The filter itself has service life of 50,000 miles. When replaced the FAP must be reset by examiner.

The FAP under goes 'regeneration' which is dependent on exhaust gas temperature.There are 2 types of regeneration;
1)Natural-high temperature & fast driving or high loads which rises the temperature.
2)Artificial-coolant level over 60oC with engine load equal or greater than a preset level, will not take place at idle.
Regeneration therefore takes place when required as determined by the 'node' dependent of distance and fill up cycles which must be more than 7 litres

Thanks :spin:

But the date seems weird 01/03? - that can't be the latest?

It is all so confusing - I don't want to pay £200, and then the first warning light I get is, wait for it, 'depollution' error....

I have checked Etech and elearn and no info regarding your managers info, like T says there was a much earlier service news regarding additives but I doubt that it could be the answer. It could be that the dealer has contacted Teseo for info and it could be a new procedure to cure this fault that hasnt been released to dealers yet.

Cheers - maybe it was something he has done, because he mentioned that 7 Ulysses had been back with this fault, 3 of which have recurring situations like mine.

I've just had my first Anti- depollution warnig at 10 000 miles the car did drop into recovery mode but, like others have said, returned to normal after switching off and back on again. Also similar to other posts it went off the next day.

Did anybody get to the bottom of this? is there anything to be done?

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........

Yes, the Ulysse has broken down in the village with, wait for it, "Depollution" error. Jules said it is undriveable, but it has been left in a safe place. I will have a look at it later, once home, but then it may be a question of calling the AA in the morning and taking it down to the dealership [and yes, they are now aware of the situ].

So much for it being fixed :( at this rate, the car is undriveable, and can't be relied on to go anywhere. Hopefully this will convince them now to do something more - it has already had a new CAT on it, within one year of purchase.

Don't forget to get a hire car from the AA if they can't fix it and have to take it to the dealer. I think you get a couple of days paid for.

Believe it or not, we haven't had it on our Ulysse since the body computer update done under a recall, but wait for it, now the Alfa is doing it instead.

We have had the engine light on 3 times with the fault code PO154, which is
"O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1)". The AA reset it the first to time and I have reset it using the OBD cable I bought on E-Bay but it is going to the dealer to be checked on Wednesday while I test drive a 159. I think it will need a new sensor and hopefully it is under warranty. I don't even know where the sensor is to look at it as there are 4 of them apparently.
