General "Depollution" Engine warning message

i've had this on and off for 3 years on my Ulysse - if you let the car idle for around 15-20 mins until the fan cuts in the next time you start up it will have gone (something to do with heat required to burn off residues in exhaust) the sensors are rarely at fault this is why the problem is prevalent in cooler weather

My local FIAT dealer finally cured this problem after many attempts, we went through a lot of the suggested remedies on this board including topping up the FAP fluid but nothing worked. Unfortunately it was so long ago that I can't remember the exact details of the final solution except that they found a faulty valve/sensor which if I remember correctly was associated with the turbo but did not necessitate the replacement of the turbo.

Of course this lack of detail isn't much use however what might be of use is the name of the dealer who should still have the details on record. My car was a 2.2JTD Prestigio, registration L739 KEG.

The dealer is
22, Boucher Crescent, Belfast, Belfast BT12 6HU
Tel: 028 9068 4636

hope that helps

good luck

:bang: We're at a loss. 2.2TDi has been back 4 times now. Waste gate replaced, pipework modified, sensor replaced and still keep getting fault report. Just picked it up today - now we're told there's no fault. So it's normal every time we go on a motorway. Is it a coincidence that fault only started occurring after the engine tray fell off? Tried getting that replaced by the garage as only way it could have fallen off is if THEY didn't put it back on properly. Has anyone found a solution to this problem. We've had it for 3 months now!

FAP fluid is changed at 4th service if required at cost to customer,a regeneration of the FAP should be carried out at least if examiner shows anything but 0% blocked.

Any chance of knowing what FAP fluid my 2.2 2003 Ulysee needs?
I need to top up but wnat to chase around for a goood price. Seems theres 2 types.
Thanks

I too have had this problem for the past 3 months with the depollution light coming on then going off intermittently on my 2003 2.2 JTD:mad: . Well I decided to put the car on ramps, remove the engine tray and have a good look at all the associated turbo hoses on the intake side this morning and low and behold one of the hoses had a split in it but could only be seen when I removed the hose from the car(y) . I have taped up the hole with heavy duty tape for now until I an get a replaement hose. I started the car up gave the throttle a blip and the light disappeared (y) So if any of you are experiencing this annoying light give this a try first before anything else as it is a cheap fix!!

Hi, We had the exact same problem with our 53 ulysse 2.2 jtd. We argued the point that tyres shouldn't be wearing out so soon.... They checked the tracking and the rear was out which they told us affected the front (the rear cannot be adjusted)... We had a new rear suspension bed under warranty and 1/2 price replacement tyres (fiat told the dealership to put Mitchelins on instead of pirelli tyres (rubber harder on mitchellins)

This was DISIRA Norwich who did this.... This was the only thing they did without damaging my car!!!

I have a Fiat Scudo 2.0 140 panor taxi van. So far this year I have had the EGR Valve replaced and paid out for Diesel particulate Filter fluid topped up in the last couple of months. (Lets ignore the clutch, flywheel and power steering pump)
This evening whilst working I noticed a marked loss of power on acceleration, the engine warning light came on and the Depollution System Fault warning appeared. Last time this warning appeared I ended up having the EGR valve replaced at great expense. However, prior to this being replaced, a local garage cleared the fault and subsequently the Scudo ground to a halt a few days later...diagnosis being a new EGR Valve. This was only in March and now the same warning signs etc are appearing. Any ideas please? I could really do without another £700 bill.

take it for a half hour drive and drive it hard a good thrashing usually clears them my 500 has the same problem but clears up after some abuse

Unfortunately I can only bring you bad news. Having read the posts I can tell you from my own personal experience the warning light is just the beginning, followed by a loss in power intermittantly, there after to be followed by complete loss of power, all be it when you are doing 70 in the fast lane on the M25 in the rush hour! a very frightening experience. Strangely the symptoms appear and disappear. Light on, light off, no power, then drives fine, cuts out, won't restart, then will restart. Costs so far £800......just cut out again last weekend, Fiat still can't be sure of diagnosis, I have a list of works they wish to now carry out, cost is a little under £2000, this includes an engine steam clean!! This will be the 4th time they have had her in the workshop on this particular problem, I have no confidence in them whatsoever......Now considering getting rid and leasing. This van has been plagued from day one. Uneven worn back tyres causing a droning sound, rear sensors fixed countless times, paint issues, later recalls on works I've already forked out for, is it going be prove to be the same with this fault too?

Hi i may have missed this, but have you considered the Air Mass Meter. I had the same problem, car in limp mode wouldnt rev beyond 3k. Message read Anti pollution System faulty, orange engine light on. Changed the meter myself, a doddle to do cost £96 incl VAT problem sorted. Ulysee 2.0 jtd 03 plate.
