OK. My new mirrors have arrived and before I put them on I was wondering....

Is there anything that I can use to seal the base plates before I put them on the car that won't change the clour or the finish too much?

Suggestions on a postcard please........

not sure how well it would work but perhaps a spray varnish or laquer???

I used to put it on some paint work to protect it.

Get down to your local bodyshop suppliers (brown brothers is the best) and get some acid etch primer. A good clean, a light sand, another clean and a couple of coats of that will do the trick.

Surprised you didn't suggest I fibre-glassed then Alan. :) (or Carbon-Fibred then Tom. ;))

Cheers guys. BTW Tom, I take it that's a clear finish then? Shame my "local" Brown Brothers is in Luton. Still, I'll need to pick up some allen keys by the look of it to get the mirrors out as well.

Ah, they are already painted?

In that case see if you can get a bodyshop to put a coat of 2 pack clear on them. Sets like stone!
