Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

You had yours dyno tested before and after? :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

Tom you think you know everything but really you know ****. Why are you always SO sure of yourself?

Have you done any of these mods yourself to your car... i think not! Dont care if its been done to your friends cars.

How can you say that there is no chance a DECAT will not increase power.

Peak power possibly won't increase by much or maybe not at all but watch for power or torque elsewhere.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

obviously your not a regular on here toms knowledge is extremely vast and though he may not know everything there is no need to be like that if you knew him or this forum you would know he has helped pretty much everyone at some point or another with a problem or two so take what he says have your own ideas and give them in a repsectful way.

Dear Anon, please sod off :)

I have been tuning cars since before some of you lot were born. I have also seen enough cars on dynos with the owner claiming 'I've done this and this and this and now its xxx BHP' and seen the look on their face when the dyno shows its actually about where it started.

I don't need to do these mods to my car, heck I don't WANT to do some of them to my car. I KNOW my induction system has reduced mid range toruqe and I KNOW its running lean at full throttle.

So if you know so much please tell me exactly why removing the cat will give more power?

There is a bit more to tuning than fitting an induction kit, bolting on a supposed 'performance' exhaust and taking the cat off.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

more air and fuel in and more gasses out = more power!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

OK, so you think the biggest air filter, biggest pipes, biggest manifold and biggest exhaust will give the most power?

So you are saying these guys are wrong:
http://www.gsrengineering.com/engineering/pages/articles/exhausts/performanceexhausts.html

and:
http://www.gsrengineering.com/engineering/pages/articles/exhausts/exhausts_biggerbetter.html

And why did my old mini gain 4BHP at peak on the rollers when I took off the 2" exhaust and fitted a 1.75" exhaust? (and why do all the mini tuning books recomend the 1.75" exhaust?)

Why does torque increase when you go from 2 carbs to 1 carb?

Why does toruqe decrease when you fit an induction kit?

Sorry :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

he he that put him in his place, How ever i could see where he was coming from but obviously it wasn't the case this time, Tom would what he was saying be correct on Turbo Cars?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

Turbo cars are a very different kettle of fish :)

Removing restrictions from the exhaust means more pressure drop across the turbo turbine so you get faster spoolup and a bit more boost.

On all engines you need a tradeoff between least restriction and good gas speed. Faster airspeed in the manifold means more mixing of air/fuel so more power. In non-turbo cars high exhaust gas speeds means the exhaust is shot further down the pipe before it cools - cold exhaust is denser and harder to push down the pipe!

The surface area of the holes in a cat is about twice the area of the pipe feeding it. The issue is that it basically becomes a tuned expander right where you don't want one in the exhaust, the gasses flow in and slow down and COOL down.

Removing replacing it with a pipe stops that and you get better exhaust flow which gives you better clearing of the clyinders so helping volumetric efficiency but usually the ECU will lean off the mix hence a couple more MPG.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: de-cat

From my personal experience i believe that fitting an induction kit on its own is a waste of money. Installing a sports exhaust on its own is a waste of money. Removing the cat on its own is a waste of money.

Guys, this is one whole story. You will see the desired effect if you all the stuff together. Performance air filter, 4 into 1 maifold, and a straight pipe de-cat exhaust will certainly see you up in revving power...and believe me, you car will rev much much happier and notice considerable improvement throughout all the rev range. Ideally you optimise the CPU for the correct air-fuel mixture.
