Hi

I was just trying to de-badge my car. Boiled some water and did what it said on the guide page.

The badge came of easy and quick enough. Problem is now the remaining glue. No mather how much water i use, and how i try to get it off, the glue remains. It looks horrible.
Much of the glue went of when the badge came off. About 2-3 letters worth of glue left.

What to try now to get off the remaining glue?? any advice would be greatly apriciated.

Easy

Mine did the same withe the hot water. However, even though I tried with the spatula for ages with the hot water to no avail, it seemed to fall off next time I washed the car.

White Spirit

I used white spirit and an old credit card, it soon comes off.

dill.

glue

I think some are stuck on better than others. When I did my badge it simply came off, glue and all. I think the trick is to peel it slowly while pouring the water down the back of the badge. IF you start breaking the glue up it will disintegrate and caue problems.

The Hairdryer

I used a hair dryer to take mine off, and it was a piece of ****. Once the badge was heated and the glue was soft, they just peeled off. I did have some excess glue stuck on the car when i took a badge off, but with the hairdryer the glue peeled off easily.
The boiling water lark is a long winded job. The hairdryer is so much quicker and easier!

Cutting Compound

Just had a word with my Uncle who owns a Bodyshop and he says that the best thing to use is cutting compound to remove the glue. It will not do your paintwork any harm whatsoever. Nip into your nearest bodyshop and ask them if you can give it a go - they will more than likely be happy to help as they come in gallon containers and you will only need a dab on a cloth/rag!!!!!

Re: Cutting Compound

Dave, I took my badge off in under 10 seconds with a lettle of boiling water, all the glue as well, which was why I put it on the guide that way.

Like I say though, some badges may be stuck on there harder, it may even be to do with the age of the car as well, or mk1 and mk2, I dunno. Mine is a November '00 car so that night make a difference.

WAX !

Use car wax, it will solve your problem. Not the liquid wax, thick simonits like wax.
