any pc experts out there???my laptop cd/dvd writer has decided to stop working.i can't burn/rip mp3 or cd audio files.it won't play original cd either.when i put a cd in, it just turns in the drive, and eventually a message pops up saying no media can be found.i'm using the window media player, and i've tried using media center i got off a mate, neither work.everything on the system looks OK i.e the device manager is enabled, it comes up when clicking on my computer.
HELP!! i've downloaded some good albums, and i want to get them on cd for the car.cheers is advance

first easy thing to look at is...

What disc are you trying to use?

If your drive is a writer for cd-r or cd+r or cd-+rw??

just check that your drive will take the type of disc you are putting in it.

sounds silly but could be that simple.

If not then maybe a new drive, I had to buy a new external one for my laptop as the dvd side of things broke, would still do audio but not dvd's.

just read that it won't play normal cd's either.

I'm afraid I can't help then, but I have had 2 dvd drives break in laptops withing a year old.
My g/f's dad's I bought a new drive for £44, and mine I bought an external for £30, I didn't mind having to plug mine in as I'm normally at home.
