Hi All,

Hoping you can help.

Firstly Apologies if this has been discussed previously (couldn't find anything on this precise issue)

To start Vehicle is an 04 plate Stilo 1.9jtd 115

a short while ago i started having the occasional issue of the multi function display resetting itself as if the battery had been connected. this would normally happen overnight or when the car was left sat for a short while.
When this happens all info (MPG, Clock etc) was reset.

More recently i would find whilst driving that the dash would randomly appear to almost reboot itself. i.e. driving down the road dials would all drop and the startup checks would be performed again.
During this process the vehicle would perform normally and no other electrical equipment appeared to be affected.

Move on to last week and things get even worse :bang:

The above random reboots of the dash started happening more frequently (several times in a single trip, and once 3 times before i got to the end of the road) then all of a sudden the dash stops working entirely. SO this is where we stand now.

Without the key even close to the car the dash shows as follows:
2 indicator lights displaying constantly (not flashing)
Sidelight interior light constantly displaying
Headlight interior light constantly displaying
Multi function display constantly lit (with no information on it)

When the key is in the ignition and car is running:
As above with Stability warning light On
No Dials work at all when running and the dashboard does not light up when the lights are on.

Quick fit advised it was probably not a battery issue and was more likely an electrical problem which they wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

2 other garages decided they were too busy to look at it even and game me quotes of up to £48 p/h to look into the problem that they don't know for sure what it is.

So i am really hoping someone here has some form of shred of an idea WTF has happened.

Not really what i needed to happen christmas week, whilst trying to move and with 300 miles worth of driving needed over the next 7 days.

If any of you guys have any ideas, suggestions or need some more info please please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

i probably can repair it for you but i live in the Netherlands so you would have to send it to me.
I also can sell you a tested Diesel cluster with MPH scaling, please send me a PM when you're interested.

Hi Yellowstilo

What exactly is the issue/part that is knackered?

Is it the entire display unit or a specific part?

Many thanks for the quick response btw.

There's a good set of Dials for sale in the classifieds section.

However, I had a Stilo with similar light issues, turned out to be a faulty Body ECU. All the things you mention are controlled by the Body ECU, lights, dials etc.. Might be worth getting it checked.

I have a spare Body ECU plus the security code if you need one PM me.

Some people sell them as part of the fuse box that attaches to the front of it, don't realize that the Body ECU just clips off. I found one on eBay for £20, used the bits to try and repair my own.

However, you will need the Security Code for the Body ECU you purchase if you plan to swop them completely or you'll not be able to reconfigure it to your car. This can be done using FES (http://www.fiatecuscan.net) but the cars security system has to be sorted by Fiat.

There's an easy way to tell if the faults are being caused by a faulty Body ECU. Just borrow another and install it. If the faults disappear you've confirmed your original is faulty.

Repairing the original may be easier and possibly cheaper, I attempted to do mine but failed due to terrible soldering skills.

Have a read of this thread it may help.

Price of the Body ECU from Fiat is just over £300 according to the ePER. I'd expect the total price of the install by Fiat to be over £600.

There is no specific part that is knackered - problems are often within the circuit board itself (connections between the two layers).

I assume when you say its sold as part of the fuse box we are talking about the fuse box in the Dash lol rather than the one in the boot or by the battery?

Just posted this into another dashboard failure thread..sorry havnt got a solution but if it helps

"Start of this year i was having similar problems with my dashboard it was intermittent when it started - dials would freeze and dashboard lights would not come on then after an hour they would be back sadly this lasted a few days then it completely froze out - had it checked at my local garage nothing..

I heard of CLUSTER REPAIR UK from this site who were brilliant efficient and alot cheaper than fiat. Think i was quoted somewhere in the region of 150 for repair or 200 for a new one..Sent it off to them - repaired in a few days returned all in order with 2year warranty"
