Im spraying my dash and wondered what this rubbing compound is and how u use it as i see on some threads that u guys suggest using it!

Any response welcome

i have used rubbing compound before but not on dash spraying.

the previous owners of my bravo scratched the front bumper and once i filled and sprayed it the rubbing compound was brilliant for blending in the new paint to the old stuff plus removing a little over spray. ooops.

ive done my dash m8 i found usin wet n dry paper is ded good a gave it a proper good sanding to start with loadza water with a realy fine peice had 2 use it after each spray aswel. gave a wel good finish with a good 3 - 4 coats of laquer

so whats the best way to do it then cos i wasnt happy with the first attemt so im currently sanding it back down to the plastic.

I want it to look really good
If u can suggest what grades of wet and dry

sme ting m8 i wasnt happy wit my 1st attempt. wel i just got a pack from b@q had 3 types in 400, 280 n 180 it was made by oakley, also bought a wet n dry sponge. n i found u dnt have to go allllll the way back to the plastic just get the most of it of n make sure it nice n smooth or ur gona av some sore arms after lol.

well im cheating cos im using my dads dremil multi tool which is working a treat but just takes ages
How much did u sand in between coats and do u do it with water or dry?

water. i found it was to rough wit out just take it easy n dont rub to hard just nice n gentle, i gave it a rub down after evry coat. n if u get a run or u sand to hard dont mess wit it serious makes it 10000 times worse

so did u use this rubbing compound stuff?
im gonna buy some tonight so just wondered if worth it?

Cheers for all the advice tom
Hope it looks good
What colour did u do urs?

sassi grey sme colour as the outside m8. yeh hope its works 4 yah try n wak on sum pics wen uve done it.

rubbing compound is for after spray, if you cant quite blend in the paint etc rubbin compound gets it to blend better. use wet and dry grat 1200 in warm water to get it so u can respray over it then spray it with ur primer then flat it with 1400 wet and dry in warm water dry it then again paint with your coulor for a few layers then flat ti again with 1400 wet and dry in warm water then lacquer it THEN comes the rubbing compound

listen pal theres a spray filler you can buy, not filler primer.
once youve got it all sanded back down using 600 wetndry then give it 3 or 4 coats of plastic primer leaving about 15 mins between each coat, the rub down with 600 wetndry gently, then use the spray filler lightley( should get it in one coat with right stuff) then sand down with 240 sand paper, theflat down with 600 wetndry, then paint in desired colour giving atleast 6 coats leaving 10mins between each coat, then leave to dry couple of hours and start adding lacquer coats atleast 10 coats leaving 10 mins between each coat then leave for a couple of days and flat down with 1400 wetndry and rub up with compound and polish.

but to be honest if youre not to confident about doing it dont as it will look a right abortion if done wrong.

good luck anyway pal
