Hi Y'all!

Is it possible to upgrade the basic instrument panel to a higher spec with rev counter?

If so, will the neccessary lead for the rev counter be in place,or will I have to rig it up myself?

If I have to rig it up, where is the source for the rev counter lead?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

I KNEW before opening this, that you had a 1.4
it seems everyone who doesn't have a rev counter (ie 1.4 owners) wants one. though i have no idea why...

No-one afaik has done it because its a pain in the ass. You cant simply fit the clocks from another bravo, because the wiring is different on each model. Also, the year it was made makes a difference. theres probably about 8 configurations, and the 1.4 one is only used for 1.4's

You CAN fit an aftermarket rev counter, and if you get yourself an ECU diagram, you should probably be able to find out what pins to connect your rev counter to. You'd be the first that i know of, and as i always say, if you do it, take pics and write a set of instructions for everyone.
Or, be like everyone else for years before you, and say 'ah, sod that, too much effort' lol

hope this helps

btw, if you have a 1.4, its guarantee'd to be a mk1, because they dropped it in favour of the much more refined and economical 1.2 which also, oddly, develops more power than its 1.4 predecessor

Cheers Tommy,

it's all academic now anyway. Got run into and the cars a write-off!

I know what you mean about the rev counter but I've always had one and it feels odd not to.

Got my eye on a 1.2 Mk2 when the insurance coughs up, sooner rather than later hopefully.

I know the 1.4s take a beating on here but I have to say that mine was a cracking wee motor. A bit heavy on juice, but apart from that a pleasure to drive.

Once again, cheers.

i know everyone says that the 1.4 is heavy on the juice but go and compare to mine acording to parkers :D

im a 1.6 AUTO with 27mpg yes a HUGE 27 haha :D im hoping it was a typo hehe

I know what you mean D. I've never really calculated it out before but on a standard week, I believe that I was getting about 30mpg. Doesn't seem quite so bad! Not as bad as yours anyway!

Hello,

I managed to fit an aftermarket rev counter to a 1.4s. I also did a brief guide that is somewhere on this forum (no pictures though).

My 1.4 was thirsty as well, got about 200 miles to a full tank of petrol. My 1.2 gets upwards of 500 miles to a tank and it doesn't need to be repaired as much so savings all round. Oddly the road tax is slightly more expensive.........

Alex, 2 things. first, no-one calls me Tommy. I think thats cause my name is Ian, and my normal nickname is Buzz (yes, as in lightyear)

secondly, 90% of the 1.4 bashers here have never had one, so you can take their comments with a pinch of salt. I averaged about 35mpg in my 1.4 and i wasn't particularly careful about being light on the gas pedal. I was pleased however, when i moved up to the 1.8 that it had the same fuel consumption. My 1.4 was cracking, and i miss it. It was the first car that i chose, bought and paid for entirely by myself, and i loved it.

Apology!

As per the title Buzz. I had just been reading a post by TommyK so I've obviously lost the plot there. You don't look like him do you?!!!!

As you say, most people are going on what other people have said and not on personal experience. I loved my wee Brava.

Once again, I prostrate myself before you. Ouch! that was painful.

lol, not sure what prostrating yourself incurs exactly, but apology accepted :) and NO!!!! i do not look like him!
Do i Tommy? ;)
