Hi fellow stilo lovers,
my battery has been off my car for roughly 4 days as the car has been stood for a month or so and noticed when I pressed the button on my key fob it wouldn't unlock the car and had to do it manually with the key,so hence flat battery.i have been out to the car today to put the battery back on it and fit a new satnav+(which went in a dream and functions as it should).i then put the key in the ignition and went to start the car.everything came on (obviously time reset to 12:00) and car started fine but noticed that when I put the car in 1st gear the LCD clock display still showed the car as being in neutral, even though it was in gear as car drove forward,so I then put car on reverse which it did but was still showing as N,neutral on the clocks LCD.also the CHECK OK was stuck on which normally goes off after a few seconds or so.so I popped the bonnet thinking I would disconnect the battery again give the terminals a clean and it should be ok,but no....it actually went from bad to worse as now the clocks LCD doesnt light up and doesn't show anything, rev counter/fuel gauge/mph/temp doesnt work, but the car will still start and drive fine.the only thing that actually works and lights up on the clocks is the airbag light and airbag child seat warning lights that flash briefly when you first turn the key in ignition.any HELP will be greatly appreciated as car is booked in for MOT next week and will obviously fail with this problem....:(

Many thanks in advance!!!

You'll need to be certain the battery is good before continuing. The voltage across the terminals should be at least 12.3V (preferably 12.6V) when you measure it with a multimeter. Stilos are very sensitive to battery condition. It's possible that if the battery was flattened, it might never recover well enough and you might have to shell out for a new one.

I wonder if it's the installation of a "satnav+" that might be the problem here. Is it an original Connect Nav+? Did the car have one before? If not, then perhaps you need to carry out a proxy alignment (you can do this with FIATECUScan or MultiECUScan). The Connect Nav+ is connected to the CAN bus, so the body computer should be told about it.

In the meantime, you might try unplugging the Connect Nav+ (or other headunit) and then seeing whether the instrument cluster comes back to life.

You can also use FES/MES to connect to the instrument panel and run various tests.

:yeahthat:

Your cluster is most likely shot. The cluster itself and the safety items (airbag) have separate feeds. So if the cluster dies, you still have safety information.

if you do not have the software to try proxi alignment as said above for new sat nav you could try putting origenal sat nav back in and see if that sorts out the dash problem it may then be ok and see you through mot time, and you will know that it needs a proxi alignment doing for the newer sat nav..yes you may not have sat nav working as it should but can get mot sorted and worry about about proxi alignment later..be worth a try with mot so near

Try a fresh battery charge for 24 hours - you are trying for 14 volts across terminals. Then the computer will be correctly re energised.

This is exactly what has happened to my Stilo. But I had a new battery fitted (at a garage) and it still doesn't work. Nor does it have sat nav- any other suggestions?

even though it was a new battery fitted ,,you and most prbably garage do not know how long the battery has been stood for, even with no use a battery will loose charge, so may be an idea to put the battery on charge and see the situation then... if you have a multi meter for testing voltage state of battery be an idea so you can check the battery condition....a new battery if faulty will have at least 12 month warranty on it
