Hi all hope you can help me. My wifes Multipla 2001 jtd has an issue when dam/wet. Loses power, the accelerator pedal goes really sensitive, the engine check light comes on. Could this be a Damp or knackered MAF?

Thanks all
Mark.

I have the same issues when damp/cold but no MIL light on. When I disconnect the MAF sensor my Multi runs fine apart from when it's cold/damp whilst if I have the sensor connected it's sluggish all the time :thumbd

Update. Have had the MAF replaced, no engine management light on, but there is absolutely no power at all, manages to get 70 on the motorway but looses it as soon as it gets to a slight hill!! Down to 20mph at times. Any ideas?

Thanks Mark.

Is it sluggish throughout the rev range? Or does it pick up when it hits 3000 RPM?

I think its throughout the range not sure. Will check up. Is there a way of resetting the ECU?

That sounds exactly like a MAF problem. Did they replace it with genuine Bosch or one of the cheapo ones from ebay?

Another update!! The MAF was not a bosch one but not a cheapo one. It was a Cambiare, OEM from italy. £77. Getting plugged in again tomorrow but the garage man now says its turbo related! Not a pipe split or come off but carbon deposits? It does not run round town a lot and is doing a lot of motorway work too. My wife dosnt dawdle lol.

Yet another update lol!! Just found out that the garage disconnected the MAP sensor and the turbo overboosted. Could this be a faulty MAP sensor or anything different? Any ideas would be helpful.

Mark

Faulty MAP sensor often flags an Engine Ctrl Fault when you go above 3000rpm under load, putting the engine into limp home mode. Have you tried clearing the codes, make sure the MAP is connected, then floor it up the road to see if it faults again at 3000rpm? Your previous description didn't sound like a MAP fault.

Also be aware that the same fault can be flagged if the thin plastic boost pipe has a leak. On mine, a 2 inch length of rubber pipe that this pushes into had perished, splitting from one end for about 1/4 inch, so I lost vacuum. Didn't find that out until I'd spent £50 replacing a perfectly good MAP sensor though . Cost 20p to fix.

Unfortunately the car is 250 miles away :( i am going back in the next couple of weeks tho to swap or repair the car. The place where we got it plugged in said the turbo is overdue a service. It could be a sticky acuator?
