My beloved car cuts out every so often, I've taken it to garages and numerous specialists and none of them seem to know what the problem is.

It happens when the engine is hot or cold, day or night, it seems to struggle to keep the revs once my foot is off the gas and eventually dies and cuts out.[:(!]

I've had he lamda sensor replaced on it cause the garage seemed to think it was that, it helped it for a while, but now it is upto its old tricks again.[:(!]

Its now getting quite dangerous when you pull up to junctions and the engine has cut out[xx(]

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what it could be and how to fix it[?][?][?]

Cheers

Gaz:D

Bit of a long shot, but it could be electrical. Check around all the connectors to see if they are clean and sound, and check that the earth strap on the engine is secure.

Did the symptoms start after any particular event - such as after a service or repair job?

Cheers for your advice, but I don't know what you are talking about are these things easy to check and to spot.

The cutting out started a couple of months after I brought it march 2001, took it to a fiat specialist and he replaced the lamda sensor, which worked fine until couple of months ago.

Gaz,
It's not impossible that the Lambda sensor could be shot again. They seem to last varying lengths of time.

The connectors - just look around the engine bay and find plugs and connectors in the wiring with the ignition off. Check that they are clean and pushed together properly.

Cheers, will be checking them now, I looked at the dizzy cap the other day and the metal plates look worn , would this have anything to do with it.[xx(][xx(]

Mine does exactly the same thing, runs fine for 20-30 miles, then gradually loses power. When I stop,it cuts out completely. Wait a couple of mins and it starts ok - back to normal. I'm sure it's the fuel pump. Where can I get a replacement?

A good place for Fiat parts is JBS in Moston,Manchester 0161 688 8391.I have bought loads of parts for my Uno from there.Ask for Jack or Barry-they know their stuff.

My other half's 1.4 injection is the same. Her radio cuts out occasionally too - I reckon the ignition switch is knackered [V].. Also One of the relays which are under a cover in the engine compartment has burnt contacts - I don't have a haynes so I'm not sure where they figure in the circuit - Perhaps someone can enlighten me! ;)
