We have a V plate diesel Multipla, the 105bhp model. The glow plug warning light stays on for about 20/30 seconds after starting, but it starts every time so I'm assuming it's the usual 'replace one possibly two plugs' and sorted, BUT:

i) sometimes it won't start hot - an issue in the summer!
ii) one time on the autobahn doing 95 in 5th, the whole engine cut out and I coasted into the hard shoulder. Given a couple of minutes, it restarted and I completed the journey but at a more leisurely pace.

I'd like to take the car to the South of France this summer but I need to be able to rely on it. Can anyone help with either of these issues? I've been told that both might be down to a sensor of some sort? (Possibly both down to the same sensor)? Any ideas what that might be?

All help gratefully accepted! Steve

Looking through the forum suggests it's the RPM sensor; is it this part?

Crankshaft Sensor (CKP/RPM)
1.9 JTD
Part Number: S4P2837
Manufacturer: Facet

Rev it appears so. I am still getting used to the various mechanical 'features' of these cars and that sensor appears to be one that should be replaced at leisure say every 2-3 years rather than wait for your problem. (Next on my list too).

The mechanics of replacement appears to be no problem, just as long as you have some ramps/a pit/ lift that allows you to get to it.

Just one of a long list of bits that are guaranteed to fail sooner rather than later.

cheers

Hi mate,

Your problem sounds like classic crank sensor failure on the JTD. (also know as RPM sensor)

If you want to have a go at replacing it yourself, its fairly straight forward and there is a guide HERE

Hope that helps,
Alan
