Technical Crap Demisters - Part 2!

My fan has died.

The electronic parts seem fine, turning to 'max defrost' turns on all the lights it should. I'm guessing defunct relay or if I'm unlucky a dead motor.

Anyone know the whereabouts of the relay?

does your ciggaret lighter work?

if not its probably just the services fuse

strangly i'm sure my stereo still worked when mine blew just the fans stopped and ciggaret lighter

iirc the relay was not on the fusebox, instead it was on the motor assembly, above it, and slightly to the right when sat in a front seat. there were 2 relays, one to control slow speed, and one to control other speeds, this is why a relay failure usually results in slow speed working only, or only slow speed not working.

Ah.. I have no speeds available, although the lights all come on as expected. Will need to test the ciggie lighter fuse.

The strange thing is it did it to me a week or so ago. Then started working again. Wierd thing.

then it does not sound like a relay problem mate, i'd check power and earth wiring, and fuse. the lights that come on use seperate wiring to the motor itself, the 2 circuits are seperated by a relay so a fault in one would not mean a fault in the other. that means the lights can come on even if the motor gets no power.

And there was me thinking it was the suspension


I've got to take the lower dash apart at some point to replace a bulb behind the heating controls. Not looking forward to that can of worms.
