I noticed when turning a corner there seems to be a faint noise sometimes like a ballbearing rolling around in a tin can. It's coming from the wheels somewhere. It seems about as fast as the wheels turning and sounds like something metal and heavy rubbing brake pads? Doesn;t happen all the time, but seems to be mainly when turning left (peculiarly).

We also get a funny vibration at around 30mps - it's more highpitched than facia vibration and seems to be down near my feet (though can't be that specific).

And now the worst - last night the alarm was going off every five mins or so, until we had to deactivate it. It wasn;t windy, and I couldn't see any cats. Anyone know of any probs with the new Multipla (05) and the alarm. I did a search but didn;t find anything, BTW.

Thanks in advance

I have exactly the same just started (including turning left). Did you find out what it was?

cheers

I get a noise from right wheel area when going round fast left-hand bends but it's more clunky than tinny. Mechanic says it's play in the steering rack.

What about your brake discs? Warped? Mine had to be replaced after four years, they were beginning to rust and break up.

And I'd put up with a little vibration - you're bound to get it at 30 miles per second....

had to have both my rear wheel bearings changed at about 57000 miles bought the car with about 53000 miles on clock and after a while the rear noise bacame unbearable and the problem got picked up at the yearly service .hope this helps, the multipla forum dosent seem to get many replys i suppose were the unlucky few.

by the way my multipla is now as quiet as a mouse, just need to sort out my central locking problem out now.im waiting for replys

Probably not helpful but my alarm kept going off mysteriously because the front sunroof was open (just the back tilted up). I think the wind was getting in and quickly lowering the temperature in the car - the alarm detects sudden temperature changes (like a person getting in). This happened twice, on different days, so I'm pretty confident about it.

Re: couple of new probs (sort of) - rattling noise

Hi,

Just to say that we had exactly the same 'rattling' noise on our 05 Multi and have had it for a while. We have just returned from holiday and on the trip back when I checked the tyres the fronts were down to the canvas on the insides! So we dashed off to a local garage and they changed the tyres and checked the tracking - both were towing out: one by 5 degrees and the other by 3 - now both set to parallel.

Anyway - whilst the car was up on the ramps I had a look underneath. The handbrake cable had come out of the clips near the rear offside pasenger door and so I put it back. The exhaust heat shield around the cat was bent and very close to a a short piece of metal rod attached to the cat so i pulled the heat shielding out.

The upshot is the noise seems to have now gone away but I am not sure what caused it - changing the wheels (off/on), heat shield or handbrake cable but worth checking.

The tyre place also pinted out that the front discs were completely shot! They were massively scored on the inside and OK on the outside on both sides. They did not know what was causing it - sticking calipers? but recommended that I change the front discs/pads asap as they suspected that the braking efficiency was far from optimal. Has anyone else had this and know what the cause is? Any guide price for having new pads and discs fitted - could this be claimed for under warranty?
