My Bravo 155 20v HGT is in for its 2yr/24000 mile
service next week. (At FIAT garage , don't tell me
to go none FIAT , the amount you lose when selling
the car is not worth it !)
Just so I can be prepaired , has anyone had this and
how much did it cost ????

price

I would say about £150 excluding parts. Thats what I was told when I bought my HLX a month ago. Its not a major service so don't expect an arm and a leg.

Servicing Costs

Each dealer tends to be different. They should have a board up with the basic cost of each service on it. Why don't you give them a ring? Don't ask the salesman as they will knock 25% off!

However, if I remember correctly (!) the 12,00 service on a 155HGT is £47 labour, £15.80 pollen filter, £7.04 oil filter and a whopping 71p for screenwash! Selina oil is 23.80 for the HGT. All prices are exc VAT.

All in not too bad but the list of check items for the 24,000 is as above plus

Check Rear Disc Brakes
Replace Fuel Filter (so extra parts £dunno)
Replace Air Filter (So extra parts £dunno)
Replace Spark Plugs (So extra parts £lots!)
Check ignotion settings
Check exhaust gas emissions

So all in, I would expect about £65 for labour and probably in the region of £15 for the filters but I don't know about the plugs....and don't forget to tell them there are five!!!!!

Best give them a ring for an accurate figure. If you want a copy of the service schedule let me know and I will scan it and email it.

Cheers

Nigel

Got the price !!!

the 24,000 mile is a MAJOR service for the HGT i've just been told be the dealer and its going to be
£297 !!!!
That's all in , all parts , labour etc. Basically they will go through FIATS list of what needs checking and simply fit new parts in all the areas.

Oh well !
My 1 year service last year was £180 - so I reckon you quote for the HLX sounds about right.

Fuel Filter

Nigel,

just a quick one, i ssaw you said replace the fuel filter in the 24,000 service> Where exactly is the fuel fitler, i have a 98 mk 1 HGT. I dont think it has ever been replaced. Well i know it has not because i have always serviced my own ever since after the 12000miles service, which FIAT did.

Also i though the spark plug on my model where to be replaced at 36000miles. They are on the mk 1 HGT, maybe the mk 2 HGT have different plugs.

cheers

Not worth it

Not worth doing it yourself.
I found to my cost last time that the cost of service
is far cheaper than the amount lost when time to sell.
I aim to sell my car in the next six months
(Just ordered Merc SLK320)
and i'll be sure to get that back when selling - no
full service history and they will knock at least
that off.

Doing it yourself is fine , as long as you never plan to sell the thing !

Totally Agree

It really isn't worth doing a service yourself these days on cars under 5 years old. Unless you have all the electronic gizmo's and engine anlysers you will only do half the job. It is fine doing spark plug, oil, filters etc yourself but it is everything else that goes with it and like you say a car needs a minimum of a FSH and ideally a FMSH to sell at top whack. Also, by the time you have bought the electronic gizmos required you could have bought a new car!

Nice swap you doing there though, I have a very good friend who works as a mek and nick at the Stratford Merc dealers, I will ask him all the horror stories if you like....:)

Neither do I!

I don't know where the fuel filter is on my HGT either! It is dark now, I will look for it in the morning providing it isn't p1551ng down with rain as it is now!

The spark plugs according to the Fiat servicing schedule are 24, 48, 72 and 96 on the Bravo (i.e. every 24,000) and 36, 72 and 108 on the Ulysse only (i.e. every 36,000).

Maybe they put the Ulysse engine in yours when you went in for the 12,000 service....did you upset them? :)

If you want I have scanned version (jpg format) of the Fiat schedule if you want me to email it to you.

Go on

Gon , tell us some Merc horry storys to prepair me !!
Also if you thought the Bravo sounds nice , listen
to a 3.2 V6 - mmmmmmm. can't wait !!!!!!!!!!
