Cost of paint job ?

Morning,

Just scraped my passenger side back wheel arch, getting into a too tight works car park space. Scratches not too bad, about five inches long and only the top coat.

How much should it cost me to get these painted???

I couldn't really put up much of a fight against a sandstone pillar, and the bugger parked next to me didn't leave much room either. Arrrrggghhhhh the last couple of months have gone from bad to worse.
The driving is either terrible, or my car is jinxed. Seen as I'm a woman driver I'll take the latter.

Thanks Nicola

Re: Untitled

What is it with women and parking spaces on the Forum eh Kimmy?? Looks like you've started a trend.
:)

Women! Know your place! lol ;)

LEGEND

YES!!!!!!!

Thank fcuk its not just me, Nicola you have just made my day, sorry to sound happy when your probably feeling sh*t, but you see its not just me that does these stupid things.

Re: LEGEND

If they are not too deep try polishing/t-cutting them out yourself. All depends on how bad they actually are. I've had a quote of £509 to do all the way down the drivers side side and the bonnet of mine.

If it does require a respsray make sure you go to a good bodyshop. A cheap spray job will stand out a mile. Always worth paying the extra for a paint job

If its just your rear Arch, will be about £300-400 if ya need a new one that is.
But if its deff just the Top coat needs touching up, then about £150-200.

Re: Quote

But Nicola did'nt destroy her car did she Kimmy! I scratched my HGT the other day so lets take the **** out of me too because its so hilarious.

Re: Quote

Let's be fair Kimmy, Nicola was trying to park her car, and who hasn't nicked their arches when trying to squeeze in a tight spot.

But to try to extract your vehicle from an impossible situation, knowing that you would cause untold damage is another thing altogether ;)

OK

Fair play to us then I guess guys, sh*t happens, huh, we all make mistakes Nicola, some of us more than others mate believe me LOL ;)

Re: Quote

There was an Alfa parked a few cars from me at brooklands that had an almightly gouge down the drivers side.

Re: Quote

It's just the top coat and right on the edge of the arch. The column was quite smooth sandstone so it doesn't look that bad.

My car's gotta go into the bodyshop anyway, as I have blebs appearing on the front bumper from their previous go at a respray. (after a crash, don't ask) So if they already have my colour paint to hand, will it be cheaper?

Thanks Nic

hmmm

Might be a little cheaper mate but not much, as the real cost is there labour that they wak on top of parts/paint etc daft gits lol.

Re: Quote

I dunno where you lot get your prices from but they're all bloody sky high.

On my old car, someone chucked an egg at it and as the egg broke on the car the small fragments of the shell cut into the paintwork making a complete mess and when i had a proper look, it chipped the paint as if it was pebble dashed.

Anyway cutting a long story short, i had my whole front bumper sprayed, the whole passenger side wing and the whole rear bumper sprayed for £250.

Recently had my three of Marea Door handles sprayed at the same bodyshop for £20. (Three incase i damage a handle incase your wondering.)

Its a huge bodyshop in Bolton. (North West).

Re: Quote

I would say around £40 to £80 depending on the size of the scratches as its just the paintwork and not the body panels.

You could use a company like chipsaway that will repair it, they dont just do chips, they repair scratches, knocks, bumpers etc.

If your from the North West i can give you the bodyshops details if you like.

Re: Quote

If the bodyshop did quote an extortionate amount of money, do you reckon a girl could respray it with a spray paint can made up from Halfords, or would you suggest a different bodyshop.

I should have really asked this question I think I know what the answer will be. In short if a girl is incapable of parking, she should not be allowed near spray paint or a car. lol :)

Re: Quote

yeah but thats only a males answer to the question in hand mate so it doesnt count anyway, lol.

But to be honest, no i dont think it would be suitable, i think you could try t-cutting it and then try your luck with the old spray can, but if its not done right then it will look worse than the scratch in the first place.

I'm from near Weston-Super-Mare, so a bit too far away. Thanks anyway.

Re: Quote

Spray paint will set you back about £30 plus another £20 for lacquer. Thats £50 already, plus you'll need wet and dry paper plus this, plus that, etc.

Just isn't worth it. I was going to respray my door handles but the bodyshop did it for only £20 less than a can of paint.

Doing it yourself wont really do much, prob make it worse, try as stated before to T-Cut the scratches out and if that fails then you could use a bodyshop but i seriously think that £40 is your minimum and £80 your maximum for the job. Depending on how bad the scratches.

Re: Quote

Get a quote from the guys when you go and have the rest of the work done yeah, if its a bomb price, then just shop around, if nothings cheap enough then im sure the guys on here no some cheap but good bodyshops???

But at the end of the day you get what you pay for, so just be carefull i guess.

Re: Quote

Thanks all
