I bought this 3 pin connector for the airbag system but can't get it to work with ECUSCAN. Do those two alligator clips have to be connected to something?

Yes you need to connect 12V to those clips.
I use a seperate battery but you can also extend the cables and attach them to your car battery or cigarette lighter.

What year is your barchetta from?
Not all Airbag modules can be read with the ecuscan software.
The older modules can be reset with just a piece of electric wire.

It's a 1997 model. The airbag light came on after I turned the ignition on without the seat in the car. Just need to reset it. And by 12V I assume you mean just to the red one and ground to the black one?

You can keep on trying but that cable setup wont work for airbag ecu

It's fine for reading engine ecu.

You'll need a cable with build in dip switch to change pinout to engine/airbag/abs.
but you can just resolder te wires to airbag if you wish.

Older models can be reset with bridging some wires.
Mine as yours is a 97, and i have tried the hell with it.

Probably newer airbag ecu's can be read, and thats what I'm going to try tomorrow with the red bary

Ps: i've soldered a long power cord with cigarette pug in to the power wires.

It won't even connect to the engine ecu although when I test the interface connection, it tests out fine. What am I doing wrong and how can I get the airbag light off? Do I need a different cable? The ECUScan site says you need to have a connection on pin 3 of the OBD connector in order to connect to airbags. What does that mean?

That is the adaptor in the first picture and this is the cable. I did solder pins 3 and 7 together with a wire but still won't talk to the airbag ecu.

What com port have you opened? selected bitrate?
Have you installed the correct drivers?

Only tried fiatecuscan or kwp81 or kwp71diag?

Its not as easy as it seems, i've given up on it

You can also try another program called KWP71.
You always need to put '0x00' and chose for 'KP81 protocol'.

always connect to port 2. You'll need to configure it first in windows with the correct bitrate and speed.

deinstal all drivers for the cable and reinstal, as that's your best chance.

I use this cable:
