right, hopefully this'll make a bit of sense guys.

last year i had a little bump, which i didnt claim on and fixed it myself (wasnt worth it for a bumper and a scuff lol). anyway the guy who reversed into me tried to claim and afaik it fell on its arse as nobody has contacted me to say otherwise.

my online policy details now show

Claims:1
21/09/2008
Accident - No Fault - Costs Recovered By Insurer
Unknown

now comes the confusing bit as i didnt claim on it, firstly when declaring the accident what do i put in the amount recovered box as apparently £0.00 is not acceptable lol, and secondly how can the insurer list it as a claim if i didnt put this in motion?

any help appreciated (y)

right... emailed the insurance co. (ecar) who told me to call elmdon insurance...
phoned them and got told to call TCS...
So an email and 2 phonecalls later, I now know it was a closed case and I was not at fault... imagine my surprise (intended sarcasm lol) and that no amount was paid to either side.

Still puts me in the boat where confused wont put me a quote up cause there is no claim amount to put in, and my policy still states amount unknown :bang:

is it worth mailing ecar again to confirm that nothing was paid out and get it corrected, or am I chasing shadows?

As MEP says, but for gods sake get it in writing from the other insurance company BEFORE accepting any quote.

We don't want to hear of your Insurance being cancelled over that possible claim.

You need to make sure the blighter's don't have a reason to declare your insurance invalid over this for 2 reasons a) stress for you, and b) the law take a dim view of driving uninsured (n)

In other words make sure your bum is covered

nice one for that guys, still got 3 months on the policy so plenty of time to find quotes lol

is it still going to be worth me contacting ecar, to confirm i spoke to claim handlers who told me what they told me. I'm just thinking along the lines of if I do change insurer and explain about the whole thing, surely that initial statement on my policy (cost recovered unknown) would still be listed and would raise further questions

or am i thinking waaaaay too much into it??
Tbh i'd rather have all bases covered to avoid anything unexpected happening... my job does enough of that for me lol

MEP afaik from reading up a bit, all accidents etc apparently should be declared in case of a claim. Even if not claimed on I think they either stay on or need declaring for 5 years depending on insurers

Yep, and then they cock-up in your case when you try and declair it and they won't let you put the figure at nil :bang:

Great isn't it lol.
Mailed them back anyway to clear it up and clarify that I'd spoken to the two companies and asked if my notes on the policy could be amended to show this.

They then replied with the following:

Dear Mr Wem,

Thank you for your email.

I can advise that the claims shows on your policy as:

No Fault - Costs Recovered By Insurer dated the 21/09/2008 and the description of the accident is showing as Unknown.

On your documents it will show as a non fault claim and costs recovered by the insurer. This should not create any problems for yourself. As the claim is non fault this will not effect any premium that you are offered.

(please note email from the same 'help' desk that couldnt/wouldnt comment on the listed incident to start with lol)

I give up lol... They could've saved me a load of grey hair and time after a 14 hour shift on the phone, in the first place :bang:
Either way, I've got what I wanted in writing from them... Until next year knowing my luck :yum:
Cheers for the advice MEP (y)
