When you say "turns off" does it turn off and stay off, or is it a reset that it does?
I was thinking along the lines of Sampler from that other forum. If you have the BSOD dump screen to auto reboot, it wont help you in finding and troubleshooting the problem.

Memtest86+ is easy to use, though you really want to leave it to do at least 3 passes. Set it going before you goto bed, then check the results in the morning.

Let us know how you get on :)

Did you try what was suggest and turning teh auto reboot option off?

"Windows flag key and pause key (or right click my computer and properties)

Advanced tab

Start-up And Recovery > Settings

Towards the bottom you have System Failure settings - one of them is a tick box for Automatically restart."

Do that, then the next time it "turns off", it will instead go blue screen enabling you to write down the error message (usually 0x0000000****) and the title of the error message. Then you can either post that up here, or go google it and look for a solution.

Regarding memtest86+, please remember to leave it on overnight. IMO, 1 pass is not enough. 3 should be ok though.

Turning off auto restart means exactly that. So you computer will not automatically restart meaning that you can write down the error message that is shown (and subsequently vanished when your box turns off). It is that error message that will let you track down what it is exactly that is causing your PC to flip out.

Also, you wont be able to use any Windows based temperature logging software when running memtest86+ as it (MemTest) is essentially its' own operating system and when you boot from the MemTest86+ disc, it will not load windows. You will have to turn your machine off before you can get into Windows again.

I did not get a wink of sleep last night.
I kept tossing and turning and muttering something about RAM parity checks.
All i could think of was your PC running MemTest86+ overnight, and the thought of any errors meant my mind would not rest.

Can you help me sleep easy tonight and confirm that there were no errors please?

try different PSU.

aye i agree.

first idea would've been CPU overheat, but as that seems fine then i'd be looking at the PSU next.

GFX could be overheating, but that doesn't tend to cause switching off - just a quick freeze here and there. More than likely the GFX card is pushing the PSU over the edge when it's powered up.

take the side panel off, ditch any aditional fans you have added, ditch the ide devices - basically unplug anything you don't need to run a game, and then fire it up and see what happens.
