Computer experts? Laptop advice wanted!

I just got this Tosh from Dabs...very happy with it, plenty quick enough for me (but I don't do gaming, just surfing and some MS office stuff)...good for DVD watching ...the best bit is that it doesn't seem to get at all hot, which can apparently be an issue with Acers ...

Dabs have a very good range including an Acer for well under £400 (40gb, 15.4 screen, 256 memory  )

Also have very good deals on peripherals like routers etc, but it all together and P & P is free at the moment

the fact some acers get hot is because they are 'power laptops' werebeit they basically use a desktop processor.

You can't really get a slim and light and easy on the juice type laptop with more than 1.87ghz cpu, and there is no point as it would just eat the batteries.

Best off buying something with a dedicated graphics card (micromart reviewed my laptop nad a bunch of others, put mine second behind an equivilent acer but with a real seperate graphics card (fair one too), but when I phoned acer they said it was a one off and they couldn't make them anymore as they couldn't get hold of enough motherboard (well laptop equiv of a mother board) to support the graphics cards, and the next cheapest of similar spec was just nudging a grand :(

I ended up going for the Acer machine, got the laptop plus a wee active speaker for £700 all in. www.cclonline.com - recommended! (y)

The laptop is a right beast :D it runs San Andreas in 1280x800 resolution much smoother than my Athlon XP3200 can manage in 1024x768. Only downside is that the 15.4" screen means it won't fit in my old carry case!
