Compulsory insurance

I know in australia it isnt compulsory but if you have an accident everything wil be comeing out of your own pocket

i have a friend that moved there

Oh and to add, insurance here in Taiwan is done by vehicle, not by person.

Pretty useful (y)

I can imagine the furore now if here considered anything like that... All these chavvy young drivers forcing the premiums for old git drivers up. Women moaning as they have to cover the additional cost of premiums for males.

We'd never hear the end of it!

Obviously none of this reflects my own opinion :p

It must be NZ then where apparently you pay 60dallars a year to tax the car and that covers your insurance also or somthing. Think its only your liability to others though, but means youngsters can drive fairly powerful cars.

You know wrong then ;) I live there (y)

I pay $501 per year car rego (per car), of which $264 is a TAC (Transport Accident Commission) which pays for compulsory Third Party Insurance. Any insurance above and beyond that I have to get elsewhere.
Ive got comprehensive insurance on my X1/9 which costs me another $800 a year (cheap for my age, but I'm insured through an enthusiasts company) but any licenced driver is covered driving my car. The only difference is that if you're young, you pay a higher premium if you crash.
The good thing about CTP is that if the car has rego, then you know that you are covered in a crash :D

WRT the high powered cars MEP, when i got my licence, the rule was nothing over 125kW per tonne, now its no V8s, no turbos, no hi-po 6-cyls until you're off your probationary licence.
