completely O.T but help with messenger on laptop needed

Does anyone know how I can get a messenger program ( i.e. MSN Messenger ) to work on my step daughters new Acer aspire one mini laptop/netbook ??

It runs on LINUX and normal messengewr doesnt seem to download on it.

I have tried trawling a few laptop sites but cant seem to find an answer but I know theres a few of you on here that are hot on IT stuff so thought someone might know ??

You should be able to download it by going on the Hotmail site. Mind you, worked at a school that had loads of ACERS and lots of trouble, sorry!

wot about web messenger? a few ppl i know use that at work? or failin that,u should have windows messenger pre installed on it?

Take it back and buy a Microsoft Notebook.

Seriously, best advice I can give.

My advise is same as Ians, take it back and get a Microsoft Installed Notebook. Wont just be MSN you will have problems with.

As for Acer I thought the same there were a load of trouble but I got my mine n love it to bits Aspire 8930. I do loads of stuff on mine and not had a single fault.

MSN will not work beacuse it's a windows application.

Linux is completely different and you cannot install exe files on it.

I would reccomend going to the synaptic package manager in linux and installing pigin instant messaging.

Or installing Windows XP on the note book!

i doubt the motherboard will be compatible with windows. not worth all the hastle, do as suggested and take it back

anon, what are you on about? its an intel atom based netbook so is standard x86 architecture.

you can install windows xp or vista on it if you want. if you dont want to do that, then you could exchange it for an xp based one.

ive got the advent 4211 (now 4211c), which is based on the msi wind. got it from currys for 275. 1.6ghz atom, 80gb harddrive, 1gb ram, wifi, bluetooth.
