Hi.
I have 3 fiat multipla 04,06 & 10 and love them to bits. The 06 is a organ donor and I want to know how to completely remove the entire central locking system and put it into a vintage car so as to slow down would be car thieves and make it a bit more practical to use

Specific pictures of bits that need removal would be a help but I’m handy with a screwdriver and should be able to follow verbal instructions

any help will be much appreciated and if anyone needs parts I’m in Essex uk

thanks
dave

I don't know this particular car but this is something you may need to be wary of or at least investigate to see if it applies to your cars. Most modern cars have an ECU (engine computer) and car body controller (controls lights, locks, windows etc). These units can both have the car VIN number stored inside and they will need to match to enable remote central locking to work and to ensure the immobiliser functions correctly. Swapping these units can get complicated with different models/years and levels of options etc. Often they can be model specific and not work in a different year car model. Specialist equipment/software may also be required to change the configuration within the units.

Hi…so a bit more complicated than I thought but if I take it all out and put it all into a car from the 70’s that doesn’t have any management systems is that gonna work ?

Hi. I guess all the electo-mechanical parts can be swapped over. You would need to control it with a relay or two, so these would need to be wired in somewhere. They are integrated into the car body controller on later cars. Depending on the classic, if there were models with optional central locking then there could be a socket for a relevant relay etc on a relay assembly. You would need to study the circuit diagram options for the classic to see.
My old Panda just has central locking operated by the drivers door key/lock. So you may be able to get it working like that for ease of use. Don't think it will improve security much though. If you want to try to get a remote locking system working with a key fob, I wouldn't have a clue how to do that ,because it would link into the car body controller electronics.
