cold starting stutter

I have a 1.8hlx 98s bravo with 71k on the clock

When starting on cold mornings the car starts, goes upto 13/1400 rev's then as it drops back down it just dies rather than the "choke" or what ever mechanism it is kicking in and giving more rev's

my way round this is to apply alittle "gas" and then it keeps running rather than dieing.

Its annoying on mornings, i want to be able to start the car without messing about.

I have posted this before(would have added to that post but search is yet again not working)and it was said that my car needed a good service (all plugs and filters). All this has been done and for a few days it didn't do the above symptom (may have been warmer weather??)but now its back again...only positive is it requires only the slightist touch of gas as apposed to "abit more"

Go to Fiat for a diagnostic check. Its something whit your choke. Its ECU powered.

Or it's the idle control valve - disconnect it whilst the engine's running and see what happens.

try the stepper motor at the back of the engine.its locaated at the top midway.You cant miss it.I had a similar problem., and thats what it was.Apparently a common fault on a bravo

how much was it for a replacement stepper motor as you put it...with fitting?

If its the idle control valve, how much is that to replace with fitting

You can do the idle control valve yourself, 2 screws and a plug and it's done

I'm sure if I'm wrong someone can correct me but I think they are both the same part.

Yep, the idle control valve contains a stepper motor - maybe this is where the confusion is coming in
