depends how low your gona go if i was you id get the coilovers if ur gona go low if not get springs and dampers
Thanks very much guys! and yeah Coyle, I agree.. I was gonna buy the Eibach Sportline spring kit but then you have the issue of uprating the dampers.. and by the time you've bought them you might as well have bought yourself some coilies.
Any advice on the best (and cheapest) move?
It's not so much the dampers wear out quicker but more the fact they cease to work very well. At 35-40mm drop the standard dampers would struggle to keep the rubber in contact with the road surface on anything approaching a bad surface - which is obviously not a good recipe for fast cornering (or ride comfort)the maximum you should go without dampers should be 35-40mm but its advised to get upgraded dampers as the OEM's would be to weak to dampen the spring force and also they would wear alot quicker.
buy cheap, buy twice
on something like suspension, its worth waiting till you can afford something abit better to be honest mate
Yep, very good reports on Eiback -30mm with standard dampersThanks for the replies Adrian + Argo. So as long as I go with the eibach springs that claim to lower it by 30mm I should(?) be alright with the standard dampers?

They still wont be perfect on poor surfaces but if you keep to mainly good roads then that shouldn't be a big issue (you'll want to keep well away from really bad roads anyway if lowered)
KONI or Bilstein spring to mind...
