Hi all,

As the title says I'm planning on fitting the above this weekend to my '96 Sporting in the hope it smooths out my tickover and slight hesitation a bit.

Ive never done these before (dont have a Haynes - bidding on one on e-bay tho!) - and wondered if theye are a straightforward enough job?

Is there anything I need to look out for? Do I need to disconnect the battery for example - bit nervous about all that juice and coil packs etc, etc....

Any advice or pointers would be gratefully welcomed!

Thanks in advance (y)

the coil packs are held on by allen key bolts, 4 for each pack. they also have metal platey bits on the sides which will come off when you take the bolts. these bolts are circled in blue in the attached pictures.

as well as removing the individual coil packs, you can remove the bracket that they bolt to. This will remove both coil packs.

there are 3 bolts that hold the bracket on. circled (or rough location) in yellow. Once unbolted, if you wiggle it a bit and pull it'll come off. The end of the bracket locates near the end of the cam. If you remove whole bracket, it's advisible to replace the O ring oil seal.

Make sure you remember which wire goes where ;)

MAP sensor is easy peasy.

Thanks very much for all the help guys, much appreciated as always. Just a couple of questions following your comments though....

If I remove the coil packs together, where do I obtain the new oil seal - is it a dealer job?

Also, on the MAP sensor there seems to be a 'spring clip' fastener thing - does this pop out with a screwdriver or something??

Arc - many thanks for he photos - how do you fnd the D50 I have one myself.

the O ring is just a standard O ring, i can't rememeber what size it is - but you'd be able to get one from somewhere, failing that it is something the dealer should have in stock.

spring clip on the MAP sensor hose? mines never had one of them - just pop it off, i dont think my MAP sensor had any sort of clips on it, though on my new setup i just have cable ties to secure the vacuum hoses.

i love my D50, i use it with a sigma 10-20 lens most of the time (not used in them shots though), it's ace. One day i'll upgrade it to a D300.. but only when i'm feeling flush!

Thanks Arc, I'll nip down to Platts to see if they have an 'O' ring in stock before I take it apart... I'm sure the MAP will be fine, I'll tackle that first I think.

I have the Sigma 10-20 on my D50 as well, cracking bit of glass. Have you tried he Nikkor 50/1.8 - thats a belter for 70 quid.

Ian.

i've used one a bit, but the focal length is a bit too restrictive for what i shoot really. it works out at 75mm when you factor in sensor crop. great fun playing at f/1.8 though - shallow DOF :D
