Clutch

Took my car into Desira Bury St Edmunds yesterday as the clutch was making a noise when it was pressed. According to them it was the bearing that was making the noise and my bravo(sx100) needs a whole new clutch.

Ive been quoted £400 which sounds a bit expensive considering that on my parts CD it looks as tho the actual clutch would cost less than £200.

Would I be better going to a different garage or is this a pretty standard price??

The Delphi/AP/Borg&Beck clutch kit for the 1.6 (AP make the clutch for Fiat) is £95 list.

£400 is too steep.

I'd say depending on your location around £200 is a fair price/borderline a bit pricey

Yep, I paid about £150-200ish for a new clutch when my thrust bearing went...

out of interest would a clutch still be covered under manufacturers warranty (the car was registered in 2000 and has only done 30k)?

do the FIAT warranties apply even if the car was bought 2nd-hand?

No, wear and tear mechanicals are never covered.

Listen dude, the price is so steep probably because it is not only the clutch that is being changed. If the clutch is making a noise when depressed then it means that your thrust is busted and yes, that is expensive. Get it changed quickly coz if it completely snaps then you are looking into an even bigger hole in your pocket coz it will bust straight through to the diff and gearbox. I've been there done that

The thrust bearing comes as part of the clutch kit, they are not expensive. Numpty.

I paid £250 to have a new clutch kit fitted along with anew slave cylinder so £400 is way too expensive

definitely shop around. try Yellow pages or your local garage etc. you should get it much lower.
