The slave is on top of the gearbox. Get someone to press the clutch pedal and see if it operates the clutch release arm. If not it may be the slave or the clutch master cylinder at fault.Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and have a look for leaks at both ends of the hose/pipe that goes from the clutch master to the slave. The clutch master is beside the brake servo just above where your clutch pedal is but in the engine compartment or just follow the hose back from the slave. Get back after you do the test.

The clutch bearing can also push through the fingers on the clutch plate cover. Did the clutch pedal feel fine before it stopped working, was there a grating type feel to it as it reached the bottom of its travel?

I'd pop into the bonnet - and just see if the lever on the gearbox moves

But if the pedal is seriosuly floppy - means fluid loss? but could also be the bearing as said

IF the Slave and master cylinder are okay - and pressure works fine
Then i'd be tempted to say its the bearing too
Which means gearbox off

While the gearbox is off
A - Check the Input shaft for play, any play means the bearing is on the way out and the seal will start to leak - meaning the Clutch will be ruined by gearbox fluid and you'll be then having a new clutch and g.box repair then

b - replace the clutch, if its getting low, might as well have it replaced now since the bearing would be changed

C - Refresh the g.box fluid, Its emptied to remove, so daft not putting fresh fluid in
Keeps the box running healthily :)

Happened to my Punto Mk2 too....Try Bleeding the Slave Cylinder and the Master Cylinder 1st....If still happens....Get the Master Cylinder Changed....That is what I've done and it worked.
