Hi ..I think the car has just developed clutch slip..on hill climbing the engine will race but the car has trouble picking speed up. Same when quick acceleration. Its done over 100K but a lot of this is motorway travel.
Does the clutch system have any adjustment or is it down to new clutch?
What would I expect to pay for this at a garage?

Having a similar issue myself. I just assume my clutch is on it's way out so I'm taking it easy.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know the price for a new clutch and how big a job it is to change.

(2003 Ulysse 2.0jtd)

pretty sure its front subframe/engine/transmission out to change the clutch.

Never done one myself, but the two synergie's i've seen done were done this way....

We were quoted £1100 by a Fiat dealer a few weeks ago for a new clutch on a 2.2 JTD.

Mind with the engine out I imagine you'd also stick in heater plugs on a diesel and anything else that's a pain to access.

:) Hi Nationwide auto centers quote about £560 for a mk 2 ulysse but cant confirm till its all in bits because some are solid flywheel and some are duel mass flywheel and it may be better to convert back to a standard flywheel kit. My local garage are around the same money and same problem dont know till its apart......

The JTDs definitely have dmf. Contrary to previous posts the engine does not need to come out. Obviously the gearbox has to come off the engine, if it's just the clutch(and flywheel if ness.) the subframe can be left alone as well.

Would make things a lot easier and easier to swallow if the subframe doesn't need moving.

Felt sure the JTD's were DMF, but like I said, never done one myself, I guess they must of moved the subframe as a matter of ease (guess it would be easier if vehicle is on a lift).

I had the clutch changed on my 1997 Ulysse a couple of years ago at about 120K by my friendly local garage. Total cost including parts was about £500. While it was being done, the mechanic was visited by a mechanic from the local Citroen dealer who when seeing what was being done to my car commented 'that's a nice little earner'. They charged nine hours labour plus parts for the job.

The job did not require removal of the engine, but the engine was lowered to allow easier access. It did not take nine hours either. I suspect your Fiat garage uses the same service time schedule as the Citroen garage.

Hi, my clutch went completely last thursday Ulysse 2.2 jtd,its at the garage now, I managed to get the clutch kit and dual fly wheel for £336 from euro car parts, now just waiting for the labour charges which I would be looking at around £500. A word of advice thou, if you have a dual flywheel, it is recommended you get that done at the same time as the clutch, or your new clutch could possibly have premature failure as some members have stated in previous threads and all the experts recommend as well. The company also do the conversion flywheel as well, but it is about £70 more.

If you plan on keeping the car long enough to change the clutch again, then pay the extra for the converion to single peice flywheel. It'll save you a few hundred quid next time you need a clutch. Otherwise, just have another DMF fitted.

How did the clutch change go Andy1965?? I just cant find anyone who wants the job near me (Kent) and I feel I can trust. Most garages are sucking air and give me the impression they dont know whats involved.Or they dont want the job....Help

Hi Jarred, it went really well, car drives great, have had no problems with it, all told it cost me £336 for the dual mass clutch and flywheel from Euro parts (they also do the conversion kit to a solid flywheel for about £350) and £350 for the labour, which I thought wasnt bad as fiat wanted nearly £1200, if you lived nearer to oulton broad you could have used the garage I used, called Walton Garage.

:) Thanks for the reply sound like the type of garage we need down here. The clutch kit price is about the same everywere i try. But most of the garages wont commit to a labour charge "computer says 6 to 10 hours" but "might take longer" Also some have tried the "might need to take off the radiator" (so will add anti freeze and flush to cost) I need a garage that knows whats involved so no unexpected costs ontop. The search goes on.....Or i will loose my mind and put it in my garage with pit and do it myself might take a week (around work committments) but at least i will know whats involved.

Radiator thats a good one lol, sounds as thou you mite as well do it yourself, if the garages there are unsure of labour.

Try asking the same people to quote you for a peugeot expert van (basically similar vehicle although not totally identical) Think you'll find they know how to do that for sensible money!
