Hi all!

I am a complete newby to the seicento car and this forum! I hope to be a regular as i love this little thing.......

Now i had to buy the car as my rover 200 blew a head gasket and this little beauty was the only thing in my price range and at 33,000 miles looked like the deal and steal of the century!!!!

Well i had a long trip from south to north wales on friday and on the way home about 125 miles from home i got hit on the underside by a plank of wood from the pleb driver in a flat bed in front......straight away i lost use of the gears.....pulled to the side of the road and wanted to call the AA but left the bank card at home and they would only come if i was in posession of the card at the time.......low and behold i had to drive the car home regardless....

Yeah i know:bang:

But 20 miles down the road all was well with her again and she got me home ok........

So of course i suspected the clutch........its working but has a bit of a whir to it.......could drive her but think its best to leave her for now until i get a garage to do the clutch......still awaiting prices.

Then  time and i think to check the tranny oil.......to find it empty.....add a litre that i had and still no where near full......check underneath and sure enough there is a leak from the passenger side gater covering the ??driveshaft??? (bit that goes to the wheel).......

So i am here to ask you knowledgeable folks to help a newby to the fold and say if there is a chance that if i replace the gater and flush the oil whether it will save a full clutch job (£375 ish) or is there something more sinsister going on?

Does the gater hold the oil in.......or am i seeing the result of oil getting into the gater and leaking through the slight hole???

Please give a little guidance!

if it is the 899CC seicento then the inner gaiters does hold the gearbox oil in

if it the 1108cc then it doesnt but the "cup" with the gaiter on goes into the gearbox and acts as a seal

could you get a picture or give some information on the CC of the car ?

Ash

Sorry i should have said! Yes it is a 899 CC - X reg seicento sx.

Thanks :)

You are a star!

Thanks! I will get them changed this week and go from there........hopefully the clutch is not messed up!

Yep change those you should do the outer CV boot aswell as you have to take it off to get the gaiter on

gearbox should take 2.4 litres of oil (1.6 in haynes for sporting only)

Ash

Sorry ash can i just check is it just the gaitors or the entire CV boot i should replace??

Now you have made a newby very happy!

Im the dunce here.........getting my boots and joints all in a muddle!

I will replace all 4 and hope that that solves my problems!

£50 and a few hours of cursing and sweating sounds like a plan if it will save on the £400 i was just quoted for the clutch

You da man!

Cheers.........
