Hi Folks,

You may remember I posted up about my ebay bargain a month ago - run into a problem today, car has no clutch involvement. Pedal just hits the floor, yesterday was a bit jumpy when pulling away at junctions etc.

I had a similar problem with my old Punto, it turned out to the master slave cylinder? Had one or two suggestions bravo might be a shot clutch cable, but not sure it even runs off a cable? Would it be hydraulic?

Shes a P plate 1.6 16 valver, if that helps!

Cheers,
Martyn

hi mate its hydrolic has ur brake got softer as they run on the same system if so it most defo be the slave cylinder

Hard to say - the pedal is as steady now but I cant say for sure. It hasnt quite been as responsive of late, plus had brake warning lights on?!

The clutch does not use the same fluid as the brakes it uses the same fluid as the power steering.

I think yours does have a cable Martyne as its an earlier mark 1 take a look at the top of the gearbox and should be able to see.

"The clutch does not use the same fluid as the brakes it uses the same fluid as the power steering"

It does use the same fluid as the brakes. But the clutch system won't affect the brakes as Fiat are not that stupid.

O well i stand corrected, thats another thing learned excuse me while i give myself a slap.

Appoligys moje.

So then its hydrolic Martyn so proberbly the master cylinder.

I had this problem whith 17TD vectra clutch was as light as a feather could push it down with one finger, and it was the master cylendr needed replacing

Tis the clyinder - slave cylinder I think its officially called? Leaky fluid on the top of gearbox etc mate just checked it over the now!

Naw, just gonna get a new one I think!

Went to the scrappers earlier but got there just at closing time :(

Buy a new one, don't be a cheapskate. They are only £25 or so from Fiat.

Ye i think if your not worried about the cost it is one of those parts that is best to get brand new, unless you know a good scrapper with one on the shelf.

The joys AA,,good luck in getting it sorted out.

Cheers Scotty.

That's the plan - though I'll probably use the local motor factors :)

Even new Scotty they aint looking like costing more than 30 quid tops! I'd rather pay that and know it's been repaired right!

Thats cheap i was £105 for one last year for the vectra, thats quite a diffrence.

Scotty

Yep thats it,they have good feedback aswell so the parts must be up to scratch.
I think thats the first Fiat part i have seen cheaper than other makes??

I'm gonna get the part locally as I could then hopefully have the part tomorrow.

Gonna be a pain in the arse without the car, but it happens I guess! How hards the refit? Mate had a look, hoping he'll be free to do the repair but he said may take a while as battery/battery tray (for starters) will need removed!

Right folks, just away to try the repair in a mo - hopefully wont take too long but we'll see!

Wish me luck - luckily my mates coming round to help so shouldn't go wrong....hopefully! :D

The famouse last words, never even utter them Martyn sure as hell something will go wrong.
Hope not though let us know how you get on if ye get stuck i can ponder my Lindsy porter manual might be able to help
You should be alright though
Cheers Scotty.
