Technical Clutch gone. Cable?

I own a 1995 Fiat Uno 1.0 litre Start. It was running fine until today when I noticed some play in clutch pedal and it was hard to get into 1st gear. A couple of miles down the road the pedal became completely loose (no resistance) and it was impossible to change gear. I thought it must be the clutch cable had snapped but after researching online it looks like they stopped fitting clutch cables to the uno. Can anybody clarify this? Is it possible that my car is really a '94 but was registered in '95. And if it's not the clutch cable what else could it be? I realise I need to get a mechanic to look at it but just wondered if anybody here could give me an idea of cost etc.

Most mk2 Unos have hydraulic clutches. The symptoms you describe sound like a failed clutch slave cylinder (it's attached on top of the gearbox). Get it changed and your clutch should work properly again, though check the fluid level too as that might be low and causing the problem.

No it's not a big job, a competent mechanic should be able to do it in less than an hour. Unbolt/ remove old slave cylinder, replace with new cylinder, bleed system and all should be ok.

No idea what it would cost as I never use a garage to do work

Hmm now morten's Uno springs to mind!

UK 1.1 / 1.0l unos have a hydraulic clutch after about Jan 93, maybe earlier.

Some other markets retained the cable.

not sure if the Start was a UK only model of Uno. My Uno start has a hydraulic setup.

not near me really, but you shoule have a hydrallic clutch.
