Hi.
This is a little issue I had on my Panda not long after I got it and it's back.

I noticed on quick gear changes upward at around 3-4000 rpm there is a roughness sound transmitted into the cabin when depressing the clutch and giving a little throttle just as the clutch bites. Ease off before pressing the the clutch and there is no noise whatsoever.

At the time I put blue tack between the coils on the pipe to the slave and this made a huge difference, the blue tack has now gone and the noise has retuned.

I'd like a more permanent fix and reading through various threads the MJ versions are prone to this and there are some that have had it on the 1.2 & TA. Fiat fit an exorbitantly priced damper for a total cure but the old Rover 75 had one that looks the same for under £40.

See here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-MG-ZT-ZTT-CDT-CDTI-CLUTCH-DAMPER-KIT-STD000010-/333749791290

Does anyone have one of these dampers fitted and is it possible it can be confirmed it looks the same.

Many thanks.

Hi.
The damper came today. Whether the fittings are compatible I'm not sure but I am certain I can fabricate a suitable way of installing this.

I eventually got this for £30 including post a considerable saving than the price I believe Fiat charges for this.

Just remembered I found one on my boys 2012 Punto Easy 1.4 8valve. Took a wee bit of thinking about what it might be before I figured it out.

Hi Jock.
I remember my. Rover 75 V6 had one to damp out the vibrations when doing fast gear changes without fully lifting off the throttle. I'd read posts about this issue on many Fiat's and Fiat have the cheek to say it doesn't exist. Some dealers fit this off their own back. It's a £400 price tag including labour, my labour rates are much cheaper though!!!!

Well, as I said, I figured out what it was, more by a sense of logic in that it's shape dictated that it pretty much had to be a diaphragm with a spring behind it so had to be a pulse damper of some sort. However, for the life of me, I'd no idea why it might be needed so thanks for enlightening me.

Oh, and by the way, it looked like it was an original fitment - or that it had been on the car for a very long time so, if not a factory fit it must have been added very soon after.
