I have a 1.9JTD X Reg and it has had a clunking noise now and again when turning the steering to park. Had the dealer look at it while under waranty but they found nothing and it went away for a while - how unusual!

Had just one or two more clunks but nothing too much, got in it the other day and the clunking came back on turning the steering a fair way. Drove off and the steering was pulling to the seft quite badly, pulled over to the side of the raod and as I turned the steering a bit, part of the drivers side front coil spring fell onto the road.

It appears these are dealer only parts (have to buy a pair to the tune of £70). I can understand shocks going on as a pair but do springs have to as well? Anyone any ideas what the clunk could be and if it could have caused the spring to shear off at the end?

dont know if this has anythig to do with it or not but. i had clunking on my steering you could only really notice when manouvering at slow speeds like in and out of spaces you could also feel it slightly through the wheel in ya hands. mine turned out to be the steering shaft assembly wich cost £500 to replace luckliy it was warranty repair. funnything is its now happening again so going back next wek was only fixed a year ago and that sort fo part should not break in year or ever, as it happens mine is xreg m2 punto also
