hi all ,when i first start my 1.1 sporting sei in the morning the car always makes a sort of clunk bang noise and when going into reverse car shudders if the revs are not kept higher than they should be for the speed you actually want to reverse in and 1st gear can be a pig when all is cold .once the cars warmed up all is good

I reckon its the gear box /engine mounts and will of course be replacing

car has had its gear box oil changed and the clutch isnt showing any bad signs

any one had any similar symptoms with there car and if so how did you fix it ive seen the gear box mounts on the euro car care web page and have also seen polyurethane red or yellow bushes on ebay any suggestions on which ones to buy and are they easy enough to fit ?

many thanks for any help.

Stu

The poly bushes are only inserts which slot in to original to stiffen them up if its an everyday car go for standard poly bushes cause a lot of vibration and make it a lot harsher to drive only use them if going 16v. Standard is very easy to fit poly bushes slightly more involved the only poly bush that replaces is the ds engine mount

put the auto up on ramps or stands and inspect engine mounts and exhaust mounts while some one rocks the engine
though it is not a bad idea to replace before failure

I had to have my rear gearbox mount on our cinq sporting changed. I didn't notice any clunking on start up just when changing gear or after lifting off quickly at high speeds. The noise as was already as stated in the passenger footwell.

There were two types of mounts available from Fiat. From what I can remember it was the the uprated part with some poly type fitting that was needed. I'm not sure if its the same for a sei but I would imagine so.

could be two issues, one a mount, probably rear gearbox one and two, a misfire...

Cheers

the engine/box mounts won't improve as the engine warms up so some thing else is wrong possibily as well as a mount - so agreed

does the auto tick over when cold and warm without shaking?

yep it needs rear mount and the clunking when starting could even be the starter motor.so will change the mounts as there worn plus fit my new coil packs and will see how it goes from there

id check the resistance of the coolant temperature sensor with a multimeter as well

over the hill ? which one am surrounded by hills its paisley after all
