I do not have much idea of what I am doing but I have been looking into the possibility of cloning my ME73H ECU as a back up and having something to fiddle with. From what I have read so far it is easy to do if you know how to do it and have all the stuff you need. I have ordered a cheap Galletto 1260 chip tuning OBD2 cable so I can use the free Galletto 1260 software.
It seems all the work can be done to read the ECU with the ECU connected and then you swap them over to do the updates.
