I've recently acquired a 1996 Barchetta in Canada and I wondered if anyone knew where I may purchase a spare key - I understand the blank might be an issue and then having it cloned is also an issue -

Most manufacturers you can go to the dealership and buy a factory replacement key - I'm guessing this is not the case for Fiat ( no dealerships in Canada )

Any suggestions wood be appreciated -

Being a 1996 model it almost certainly uses the Fiat Code I system.

The car would have originally be supplied the 4 keys. A Red/Bugendy Master Key, Two Blue Keys and on Valet Key.

The Master key is the only key that can be used to program new/delete old keys from the system. The two blue keys are normal usage keys. The valet key will only operate the ignition lock and doors locks. The glove/cental storage locks and boot lock can not be operated thus keeping your personal items safe.

If you have not got the Red Master key then all you can do is have your existing key cloned. This will work OK but also means that any lost keys will still work.

Here in the UK the "lost master key" is quite a common problem and there are a number of lock smiths / other agents that can clone keys. This route is far cheaper than the dealer new keys route. I've not specifically checked on the "B" but Fiat UK typically on these older cars only supply a replacement key and locks kits where the door lock barrels and ignition key barrel are replaced. Hence people going down the "cloned" key route.

I would have thought that in Canada you will also have people who can clone the chip in your existing key and cut a new blade profile for you.

I live west of Toronto. No problem cloning keys here. Just email "keys4cars" My friend and I each own a 98 Barchetta and we have had them done, complete with new fiat keys

thanks for the reply - I have contacted a vendor in England whom is sending me a uncut key that has a blank code - I have found a bunch of places that can clone and cut the key... finding the blank key was the issue. Once it arrives I should be good to go. Has anyone ever tried to find or order a master key ? is it something the dealer can order if you give them a VIN number and proof of ownership ?
