Clicking Clutch

Over the past few days I have noticed that my clutch seems to be making a clicking/tapping noise. When the pedal is depressed, extra pressure must be put on the pedal when a loud tap is heard from underneath the car.

I have just been to a garage who reckons that my clutch is going. A couple of teeth are missing from where the fork meets. (Please note, all he did was lift the bonnet).

Looking at previous threads for prices of a new clutch, can anyone please tell me that they have experienced the same and it was a little job that cost £2.50? My kids need presents this Xmas! lol

i had a rattling when i put my clutch down.
this was caused by the clutch bearing going, it would then cut through the clutch plate and fire off possibly taking out your gearbox.

i was told it takes generally 2 days to do this... although mine was about a week.

don't worry though, just get it down to a mr clutch or summit (a dedicated clutch place) and they check it for free.

if it is that, you have to have whole clutch change (well you don't but you might as well...)

clicks

Yes I agree with Ben and had the same thing happen where the clutch release bearing starts to seize and then grinds it's way through the clutch pressure plate fingers on one side which will then start the clutch juddering as the plates are then not meeting squarely. It means a new clutch pressure plate and bearing and you might as well change the clutch as it's all on the deck anyway. My clutch change cost £250. Fiat weak spot I'm afraid clutch bearings. Pathetic really. The cost of a £10 bearing wrecks the whole clutch assembly.

Clicking clutch

Sounds similar to mine.

Upon starting the car I was somewhat dismayed to hear a noise that I can only describe as that from a garden strimmer with too much twine. Bits of lining flying around in the bellhousing!

£227 and a new clutch assembly cured that. The one consolation being that as they are hydraulic, I didn't need a clutch cable - another Fiat weekness as I discovered on my previous Cinq Sporting.

Bugger!

Well there's xmas cancelled. Just forked out a fortune to get my exhaust done. Back box came off and got that replaced then the pipe on the front section went!!!

Does anyone else have props getting parts for a 1.2 16v Bravo? Loads of places say my car doesnt exist!

1.2

iv got the same problem, clutch is about to go, but most places dont actually recognise the car. this is because it has a different clutch to the others. i think mr clutch do it though, and of course fiat, who will charge u a fortune.

good luck

Risky

It was more of a pinging noise of the fork going thru rather than a clicking. However, it stopped yesterday. All 'SEEMS' to be working fine. I cancelled the garage appointment and am ignoring any sounds until Xmas has gone.

If you turn up the stereo, nothing is wrong, lol.

Did anyone else have a clutch that seemed to cure and then shot through the gearbox? Need to know before mine does!

:)

D'oh

Ok, so the clicking noise stopped but the grinding has started. Time to take it in and cancel xmas I think. However, this Mr Clutch you lot mention.... I've never heard of it. Is it a southern thing and does anyone know any cheap places in the North West

Re: D'oh

Poo! Clutch collapsed on me this morning on the way to the garage. It only happened at the front of the traffic lights in a busy town centre in rush hour!
If looks could have killed!
Ah well, it will be fixed in the next couple of days I hope. Stuck with a bog standard 1.0 punto at the mo :(

Sunroof

My sunroof has been leaking for a while but I havent bothered looking at the solution yet. It only leaks when I'm driving with the drivers window open (having a smoke). The electric sunroof no longer works either, my back wiper doesnt work, I've had the leak in the passenger footwell, both sections of the exhaust replaced in the last couple of months and now the bloody clutch. I'm regretting buying the bleeder now but if I was to buy another, it would still be a Bravo because they look gorgeous!
Its a bit like swapping your wife for another. You end end with one a new one but still end up with the same problems a few months down the line! pmsl
:)
