Clicking Clutch

Hi all

Pressing/raising the clutch - about 3/4 way down (or 1/4 way up!) there is a click - which I mean you can actually feel with your foot. This happens even when the engine is not running.

This cluch was a relacement (supposed to have been new) about 6000 miles ago.

Hoping I'm not lookig at my 2nd clutch in 1 year! Any ideas?

I had the same prob just before xmas. I was told my clutch would go within the next week. However, after a couple of days, the click disappeared.

I thought I'd best get it checked out anyway. On my way to the garage (2 days later) my clutch collapsed at town centre traffic lights in rush hour!!!

D'oh!

Sorry mate but get it checked. Is it not still under warranty?

Yep it's still under warranty and I think you're right - I'll get it looked at. Have managed to survive a week on it so far - keeping fingers crossed now!!

Ive had the click for about 10 months now and when the car was in the fiat garage for a service about 8 months ago, they couldn't find a problem. In the last few weeks though im beginning to get a small bit of judder when pulling off in first, so maybe it is on its way out. The click is damn irritating though!

I had the judder too with my first faulty clutch - a leaking oil seal was the problem which is why they replaced it with this one!

It's actually the clutch bearing seizing which then grinds its way into the clutch spring fingers usually more on one side than the other. This causes the click as you depress or release the clutch and things will seem pretty much OK. Then, because the plates aren't meeting squarly as the whole assembkly starts getting lopped sided then judder starts to develop. Soon followed by a total failure of the clutch pressure plate assembly needing a whole new clutch.
